» annie_wtsn - Trying to conceive

I have been on Depo for a year. I got an injection right after myson was born. We would like to get pregnant. On Dec 26th I got a period that lasted 3 days. On Jan 8th I started another. I am still bleeding. I am cramping so bad I considered going to the emergency room. I have had so many problems from depo and I amazed to see so many others. Half of the helath problems I have I never even considered Depo being the cause until I realized there were so many others with the same things. I will never take this again. I would like to know if anyone knows how I would go about getting involved in a class action lawsuit. Please help!!!

» kmanda - Depo=HELL!!

. I have been on/off the shot for 4 years now and I was supposed to go back in September and I didnt go. About 3 weeks ago I finally got my first period and it was horrible. it lasted about 3 weeks. But I have been having really bad stomache cramps the last couple weeks sometimes to the point of tears. I dont know if this is a symptom or not? But I found this website and I seen alot of people talking about depression, anxiety which is wierd because I told my doctor that Ive been having these type of symptoms and all he did was prescribe me an antidepressant and now I see its more than likely just a side effect. I aswell have gained about 70lbs all together, and there was no increase in my eating habbits, actually I have tried diet after diet to loose this weight.

In response to depo shot posted by nadja05:

Well, Thats almost exactlly what happened with me. I got my shot June 06. It was supposed to wear off in August 06. It is now Jan 07 and it still hasn't. I get extremely bad cramps, but nothing. I've gained ALOT of weight that is impossible to take off. I go to the gym and eat very healthy and I cannot lose ONE lb if I tried.

Anyway, I was just wondering if you lost weight after you finally got your period in March?

In response to Trying to conceive posted by annie_wtsn:

I'm 35 and have suffered heavy periods for years. I heard about the Depo shot and it was like a dream come true, so I was on the phone with my doctor and got my first shot. After the second or third shot I started having pain in my joints and severe headaches more than once a week. NO PERIODS THAT WAS GREAT BUT THEN THE WORST THING DEC 2006 I noticed MY HAIR FALLING OUT IN PATCHES!! I've always been in good health and never had any problems like this I was due back in on Jan 11,2007 for my next shot. DON"T THINK SO SINCE NO ONE INCLUDING MY OB/GYN HAS NO ANSWERS FOR ME OTHER THAN IT COULD BE THE SHOT!! I was also wondering how to go about a lawsuit, but since it is stated that hair loss can be a side affect I'm not sure how I would go about it.

» gurlygurl - Depo Provera, Is This The Cause Of My Health Problems??

Hi Everyone! I am 26 years old and I have been treated with the Depo shots for over 5 years now, for the treatment of advanced/severe Endometriosis. At the early age of 10 I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, the doctors were beside themselves because I had Ovarian Cancer at such an early age. After going through surgery to remove the cancer and one of the ovaries, with successful treatments I beat the cancer and have been cancer free for nearly 17 years now. Once I started my menstrual cycle in my teenage years, I started experiencing severe, debilitating pain during my periods, I also suffered this debilitating pain before, after and between periods. I was miserable and the doctors related the pain to scar tissue due to the major abdominal surgery that I had underwent during the time that I had Ovarian Cancer. I was 20 years old when a doctor finally did an exploratory surgery, he found and diagnosed me with advanced/severe Endometriosis. He said that I was one of the most severe cases he had ever seen. This was the cause of the debilitating pain that I suffered from age 12 until I was 20 and is still the cause for the pain and other problems that I encounter even today. After many fertility tests, all of these tests showed that I would never be able to have children, there is just no way possible. The Endometriosis is not confined only to my pelvic region, it is now in my bowels, colon, on my bladder, liver, kidneys, pancreas, gallbladder and so forth. It has implanted itself on almost every major organ that I have. After another surgery to cut, burn and remove as many of the implnats they the doctors could, the next course of treatment would be oral birth control pills. The idea is to keep my body in a menopausal state or trick my body into thinking that its pregnant, which results in not having a period. Not having a period, keeps the pain to minimal, its stops the implants from becomeing irritated and bleeding inside, it also stops the implants from the Endometriosis from growing and spreading. The only problem was, the oral birth control pills did not work for me. I stayed nausea's 24/7, I couldn't eat, I threw up almost all day and all night, it became so bad that I ended up in the hospital from dehydration. Once we exhausted ALL oral birth control pills, the next step was to try, Lupron Depot. This worked well for me, it helped to treat the Endometriosis, only thing was I felt as if I had the flu the whole 6 months that I was on this injection. I came off of the Lupron and the doctors wanted to keep my body in a menopausal state, so they started injecting me with Depo Provera every 10 weeks.

At first the only side effects that I had with the Depo, was weight gain and hot flashes. I thought that I could deal with this much better than I could with the pain of the Endometriosis. Over the course of the past 5 years I have developed new and worsening symptoms from the Depo Provera. I only weighed 110 pounds when I started taking these shots and within 3 months my weight went up to 160 and I cannot lose this weight no matter how hard I try. I do not eat that much, and I really have no clue where this weight comes from.

Now I am experiencing severe hot flashes, the kind that make me get light headed and really sick to my stomach, not to mention I get soak and wet with sweat and have to shower several times a day and change clothes several times daily. I have a constant feeling of nausea, severe headaches, body aches, severe abdominal cramps, disturbed vision, panic/anxiety, mood swings, severe depression, constand severe fatigue, joint pain, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, acne outbreaks and problems with my teeth. I NEVER had any of these problems until prolonged use of the Depo Provera. I also have this medicinal odor when I sweat. I stand in the shower and scrub and scrub, but I cannot get rid of this medicinal smell that seems to be pouring out of my pores. I have used EVERY soap, deodorant, perfume, body spray, washing detergents and fabric softeners known to man, but NOTHING will help this.

I feel rotten all of the time and just wiped out, I have NO ENERGY to do even the smallest task. I have also started having problems with my teeth, I have had to get more fillings in the past year than I ever have in my life. My dentist says that its related to the Depo and bone loss. I am scheduled for a bone density test soon, they want to see if there truly is bone loss and the severity of it.

Does ANYONE suffer from any of these side effects from the Depo???? Did the side effects GO AWAY after you stopped taking the Depo????

I want my life back and I want to feel normal again without all of these side effects and problems. The only major problem is, I cannot start my periods again OR the Endometriosis will start to grow, spread and cause debilitating pain again. Is there ANY other medication out there that can treat the Endometriosis as well as the Depo Provera, but with less side effects???? I am desperate and any help that anyone can offer will be much appreciated!

I have been hearing about the "RING" does anyone know if this can be used to treat Endometriosis???????

» Ash001 - some advice... its not as bad as everyone thinks!!!

In response to Re: Wow. posted by llgrier:

Personally, i like the shot not having your period and not having to remember to take a pill everyday is great. I've been on the depo for about two years now. For the people that are thinking about taking it... your body reacts differently than others. I dont have a period and yes by the way you dont gain weight from birth contols its an accuse these women feel comfortable now and blame it on that to make them feel better... ya i gained weight but i admitt its not from the depo its from not eating right. i have many friends that were on it , one of them broke out real bad but like nething you put into your body it can do that and someone else i knew had her period for numerouse months it all depends to how your body reacts to it so for anyone thinking of it i say talk to your gyno about it not other girls who have tried it becuase your bodys is different then theirs..so try it out you may be like some of us who like not taking a pill and not having a period
