In response to Caesing the poison posted by KLutz461:

Hi I found your entry very interesting and informative. Just to add the reason that we all put on so much weight when we are on depo and that it is so hard to get off is because progestin is a steroid!!! If you look at the side effects the simialarities with other steroids are very similar ie, hair loss, agression, mood swings, loss of menstrual cycle !!!
Scary or what

» sawasawa77 - depo provera or manic depression

In response to Re: depo provera or manic depression posted by Sherriebug54:

I have the same problem MANIC DEPRESSION and it is the depo shot. I never had mood disorders since except when I'm on the shot. 4 days I will be due for another shot. I will not take it. I thank all the women that have been brave enough to come out and use their anger constructively. God knows I would have innocently and ignorantly continued to take the shot and thought I had nerve problems, mood disorders, and a medical file thick of problems. I lost weight but not on my tummy I look pregnant it feels bad. Do not blame your doctor this is one of the greatest coverups in medical history. while on the shot I have to take anti depressants for exam week but after 13 days I get manic so it on again off again. When I'm not on the shot I'm a bundle of energy and always happy and live a very full life. Be brave work on reducing your medication your mood will improve with time.

» marymo - Depo Provera: Bipolar: Cancer

I have read every single one of the stories that have been posted on the site until this date. Some of them have made me cry and I have nightmares about others. Some I have just thought, well there is no hope there. I still have hope, hope that my story will prevent some other young woman experiencing the same fate that have at the hands of a misinformed medical physician.

I was 17 years old when an MD administered the shot to me at the request of my mother? They never thought for two seconds about the long-term consequences. I just did what was advised, I was young and vulnerable. My periods stopped immediately, I didn’t see them again for a long time. I just carried on, I am a hard worker and I managed to work nearly full time and get a bachelor of commerce at the same time. I ignored the mood swings, the illness, the pain in my abdomen, the recurrent yeast infections, I wondered about my hair falling our but just passed it off as a bad reaction to a detergent, but when I started passing out in the middle of the day I went back to the physician. He did all of the usual tests on me and found nothing wrong, when it came to be time for my next prescription he would not I give it to me. I wondered, but did not say anything, it was 3 years later and enough was enough. I looked forward to getting my period back and feeling like a real woman again.

A year later I still had not menstruated. I still got angry for no reason at all and was incredibly withdrawn into myself. I went back to the physician and asked where are my periods!!! I was put on a regular contraceptive pill. They came back; I used to nearly have a party every time I got a period after that because I was so overjoyed that I was not rendered barren at such a young age. It is so terrifying to be stripped of the use of a major bodily function. I was never informed of any side effects to this drug, I was even told that I would not put on any weight.

I stayed on the pill for two years until one day my sister said to me “ Mary you are not in a relationship, why are you still taking the pill?” So I gave them up cold turkey, nobody advised me that I could not do that. It was so dangerous, doctors advise women who are on HRT that they cannot just quit they have to be weaned off the hormones. This is because hormones are anabolic steroids and therefore dependency forming; the body becomes accustomed to and relies on a steady supply of them. I later learned that stopping the progesterin was like stopping lithium or valporic acid suddenly and that I was lucky that I just became bipolar and not schizophrenic.

I am 27 now and have real difficulties sustaining relationships even though I am beautiful and intelligent. This hideous poison should never have made it out of the lab, the proof of that comment is in the history of Depo provera it took 30 years to get it approved in the first place, what were they seeing in those lab tests, some of what we are seeing on this web site, I should think. They stopped prescribing medroxyprogesterone acetate (depo provera) to dogs in 1973 because of the growth of tumours in the mammary in the dogs; no amount of money can explain how they prescribed it to me in 1998. I am only 27 and worried will I have children and if by some great stroke of fate that I do have them will I be around to watch them grow up or will the carcinogenic cells have got me.

The World Health Organisation has as of 29 June 2005 declared all hormonal contraceptives and hormonal replacement therapies Group 1 carcinogens. Please do not administer these drugs even to those you dislike. The Birth of New Life is never a bad thing even though it may be a difficult thing. Unlike the contraceptive drug where there is no new life only poison to our most valuable natural gift, our power to reproduce a likeness of ourselves.
Below is the evidence of the carcinogenic effects of these drugs:
What are the IARC Monographs?
The IARC Monographs critically review and evaluate the published scientific evidence on human carcinogenic hazards. These include chemicals, complex mixtures, occupational exposures, lifestyle factors, and physical and biological agents. International, interdisciplinary working groups of expert scientists prepare the critical reviews and consensus evaluations. Nearly 400 potentially carcinogenic agents and exposures have been identified in the 91 volumes and approximately 900 evaluations developed since 1971. National and international health agencies use the IARC Monographs as a source of scientific information and as the scientific basis for their efforts to prevent cancer.

Definitions
· Group 1: The agent (mixture) is carcinogenic to humans.
The exposure circumstance entails exposures that are carcinogenic to humans.
This category is used when there is sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans. Exceptionally, an agent (mixture) may be placed in this category when evidence of carcinogenicity in humans is less than sufficient but there is sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals and strong evidence in exposed humans that the agent (mixture) acts through a relevant mechanism of carcinogenicity.

» marymo - HRT and hormonal contraceptives cause cancer

In response to Re: cramps posted by veronykah:

Dear All,
I think everybody should be made aware of this. Especially when you consider that you go to the physician to make you feel better. People are being mis-informed about the advantages of these drugs.
The menopause only goes on for a few years and then it is over, most women who are on HRT do not know when to stop and many have developed horrible menstrual irregularities.
I have never been informed that the pill is a potent carcinogen and none of my girlfriends have either. These drugs should all contain a warning like they have on cigarette packets.
Proof of what I have written can be found by following this link:

In response to Depo-Provera posted by syrinx1967:

I don't know if anyone has suggested this yet as I haven't had time to read all of the responses, but have you thought of trying to get up a class-action lawsuit? With as many petition signatures as you've gotten (including mine), I'm sure you'd have no problem finding people to participate. Sometimes, that is the only thing that gets the drug companies and/or FDA to listen.

I haven't read all of the responses either, however if anyone is looking to join a class action lawsuit, there are several class action lawsuits already under way. If you google "depo provera class action" you'll find both Canadian and US lawyers that have filed suits and are looking for more victims. I've just contacted a couple of Canadian firms to see if I can join their actions (fingers crossed).

my daughter is still getting a number of side affects i suspect from the depo like not having periods unable to get pregnant and has also been diagniosed with fibromylagia and depression and has broken an elbow by falling on the newly carpeted floor. she experiences headaches almost daily she has been off the depo for 6 years. she only took the depo for 2 1/2 years. i have found that the fibro symptoms and hormone imbalance and the symptoms for the depo are all simular. and the dr.s are saying the depo is not the cause. i have also found out that they are thinking that fibro maybe be linked to hormones but there is still nothing concrete linking the two. i am rather suspicious that there is a link. she use to be very active and happy go lucky and now she is getting much like the patients i work with who all have some form of of mental illness. all she does now is going from the bed to the couch or chair and taking short walks and normal household chores are painful for her to do so she has to take many breaks to complete simple tasks. this is getting her more depressed. i am wondering how many women have been diagnoised with fibro after taking the depo and who have not been having there menses since stopping

In response to depo provera posted by angelscuddle:

Hi Angel,
Depo is poison, I am really sorry to hear about what has happened to your daughter. I would get her to see a homeopath and a chiropractor, they have some success in treating these conditions also it is highly unlikely they could cause anymore harm than your GP has already done . I would closely look at your daughters diet, supplement it with anti oxidents ( vit C & Vit E etc.) and oil of evening primrose, it is essential to get the natural hormonal balance back so that the body stops fighting itself. Get your daughter to stay away from all hormonal drugs for the rest of her life, her health is precious and she puts it at risk being on these drugs.
