In response to Re: DP...the after effects and affects posted by JenB12356:

I have endometriosis and after several surgeries and trying many different OCP's I went on depo. My gyno explained to me that it thins out the endometrium (linning of the uterus) and would, in theory, thin out my endometriosis (which is pieces of my ednometrium that have implanted in various areas of my pelvic cavity). Endometriosis is not an auto-immune disease and because the hormones prevent the build up of the endometrium hence there is no endometrium, I would be surprised if it caused endometriosis. Hope this information helps you.

Hi - I am almost 46 years old, have been on Depo shot for over 10 years. NEVER had any of the side effects; in fact for the first 3 years or so, it even seemed to help my mood and energy level. Didn't lose weight, didn't have bleeding - I LOVE not having periods. now that I am "peri-menopausal" I continue on it with doctor's guidance of course. hubby worries about it, thinking not normal to stop periods, but I continue regular health checks and all is good. it was first given to me for heavy blood clotting periods, and medical history was not good for other birth control methods. I still consider it a wonder drug, and have full faith in the top-notch doctor I see (by the way, this is my 3rd MD prescribing the depo for me, due to insurance changes. my perimenopause began at approximate age of my mom, so don't feel that it brought on that early either. sorry to hear so many do have problems, think I have always been a medical oddity anyway and perhaps that's why it is so wonderful for me. PS: my blood pressure is lower than my 3 teenage sons. Not sure when to stop it now as I would sure hate to risk a pregnancy at my age and life stage, will rely on doc for that as well.

» krista1228 - scared of after effects of depo shot

i just turned 19 a few days ago... i had my first son in august of 2005. After my son was born i decided to get on the depo shot... well my insurance cut off and i didnt go get my dosage last month... now i havent had a period since november, took 2 pregnancy tests ( both negative) and have heard horrible stories about the shot. Im scared because im starting to take these slimquick pills but i dont know if im pregnant or if the shot is messing with me or what... im just looking for someone to help me with this because im so young and dont really know much about the shot... i was on the pill and it messed with my depression pills and my doctor said my best bet would be the shot but he never told me what would happen if i quit getting the shot and stuff and im nervous... and until today i didnt realize that the shot was the reason i kept losing the baby weight then gaining it and then some... after the baby i was 169 lbs... now im 180 and i hate it... hence the reason i am getting on the diet pills

if anyone could help me i would greatly appreciate it...

Hello,
I am soon to turn 30 years old this year 2006.
I have 5 children. My last child was born april of 2005. I had gotton the Deprovera shot 6 weeks after he was born and needless to say it was my last shot. I haven't had a period since before my sone was conceived and i am extreamly concerned. i have seen 2 OBGYN's and both say it will probabyly take atleast 9 months for it to be completly out of my system and then i should start to menstrate on my own again. I guess the problem i'm now having is i may not ever be able to have another child and even if i do concieve could this have damaged my overies and uterus to where i may not be able to carry another child. If you have any insight about this extreamly sensitive subject that i am sure i am not alone in please enlighten me.
Sincerley& Respectfully yours, Cheryl McDonald

let me warn you, i read that the regular side affects dont leave for 6-8 months after stopping the pill and you may not be fertile for 6-18 months if ever again... i have heard all sorts of stories about women who have never been able to get pregnant again... so yes keep telling younger girls not to take it... because it also messes with bones and its just horrible
