» super_me - I have a horror story also

When I was 15 years old my step mother took me to the doctor to see what could be done for me because I had very very hard painful periods, he suggested the Depo shot. It worked for me for about a year and a half. I went from weighing about 180 to 210. Then I stopped because I was young and stupid and wanted a baby. About a year or so passed and I became pregnant. During my pregnancy I had very severe sickness I could not get out of bed I could not eat or drink I had lost about 75 pounds. I was at the hospital every other day, getting fliuds for dehydration I also had very bad severe pain in my rib cage that would take my breathe away. The doctors did nothing about this. November 27 of 1998 I had a 7 pound 8 ounce baby girl. The day after she was born I had a attack of pain again. they told me it was contractions not to worry about it. About aweek later it happened again so I went to see the doctor. It turned out I had gallstones. My first mothers day I was in surgery. I was informed I had a tumor on my liver. A month later I was having a biopsy. It turned out to be a hormonal tumor caused by Depo. I was instructed to stay off birth controls because of there effects on me. During my biopsy they placed clamps around my liver to show its growth for future referrence. Now it is almost 3 and a half years later and the clamps are missing. My doctor knows I have internal bleeding but from where they do not know. I have medicaid and they will not go in and explore for these clamps that they have lost. I suffer from anemia because of my blood loss. I am suppose to be taking iron pills because my iron is very low, but unfortunatly the iron pills make me sick, I see black spots in my eyes and I get very dizzy. But the doctors says it is not the pills it is a bug of some form but it only happens when I take my pills. Good Luck to all

» Black_Maria - Other Options

I am 22, skinny and active with a 6 week cycle. The 6 week cycle has given me major problems with the pill. I become unstable, a more intense version of moody.
I have been looking into Depro-provera because it takes so much responsibility off of my daily actions. All the side affects seem not to make it worth it, but i want to know what you propose as an option? Condoms aggrivate me, as well as him. I am in touch with my cycle but I can't risk pregnancy.
Any suggestions?

In response to message posted by Black_Maria:

Have you tried the patch by ortho evra? I could never remember to take my bc pills but now all I have to remember is to change my patch every week. Its much easier to remember and you can put the patch on your abdomen where noone else will see it. I have heard so many horror stories about depro-provera that I would be afraid to stay on it for the side effects. There is also a vaginal ring (Nuva-ring?)that you put inside your vagina and is changed every month. There are other options besides depro-provera. Good luck!

» woonuh - wow.

i have been on depo for about 6 months now. this week i got my period for the first time since then. i don't know what's going on with me, but i get sharp pains in my abdomen at random times. i am bleeding just like a period, but with heavy clotting. not even a heating pad helps. i want to go off depo, do you think it's advisable to go on another form of BC right off the bat?

» Black_Maria - other options

I have heard of this patch except that it is not available in Canada until the summer. Over demand in the states is why Canada is excluded from happy smile easy birth control. I ended up deciding on the pill but feel like shit. My body hate contraceptives.

I thought I was the only one with this same problem, I recently became ill once again this time diabetes, before taking depo I was extremely healthy, Active in sports.
I also took depo to back in 1998, after I had my
daughter, I began to lose weight, once I was given depo I went from 145 to 185 and I am know at 210. I only took this medication once. I have been trying to get pregnant since 1999 and each month it is the same situation, hoping that the test will read POSITIVE, these are a problems that I experienced, sever hair loss, dry skin, yeast infection, continuos throat infections, nails brittle and would bend when they would grow. I still am experiencing problemsPlease-maililil me. I got in touch with the Attorney Generals office in my state to find out if there is a class action suit pending with the makers of this medication. Note:

In response to message posted by woonuh:

When I was on depo (2 years) my doctor would advise me to take a birth control pill for 4 or 5 days if I started bleeding to make it stop (which it did). This is safe and it might eliminate the pain and heavy clots while your body is slowly phasing out of cycling. By the end of one year on depo I had no period or spotting, ever. Boy was that nice smile I forgot what a menstrual cramp felt like. I went off depo because I thought it was making it difficult for me to lose weight, but it really wasn't, but I'm on the pill now anyway and I don't really like it as much as depo.

Good luck

» amberdmb - why hasn't anyone done anything about this?

i took my 2nd and last shot dec 4. i can't get over my anxiety/panic attacks which did not start until about a month after the shot. someone earlier listed a contact to an attorney pressing a class action lawsuit, but the email was returned as user unknown. this is not fair to women... thinking of pressing one on my own as i have doc visits to back this shit up. this form of BC should be taken off the market - i'm a healthly young women but i feel worthless, and i have a hard time leaving my house! my kid is suffering the most - she's young and this shot was the worst thing that happened to us and no one will listen! anyone else?

please email me - shelarce@bellsouth.net or call me (615) 831-2428 - something has got to give.
