Depo-Provera: asking the FDA to investigate

I began having some side-effects about a month ago. Like severe, throbbing headaches and severe abdominal pains. I was told that my menstrual cycle would probably stop with the shot but it didn't. As a matter of fact it has been almost a month and its on(heavily). One day I decided that what I feeling couldn't be normal it had to be something else.I got on the net and began searching and came across some severe horror stories.Many of those I can personally relate to. So for anyone that is filing a lawsuit against the company please do so because they need to be made liable for the pain that and irreversible agony that they have put so many through.-- posted by Rae2203 » orcasong1 - Re: Re: problems with Depo I've been reading some of the email regarding depo and I must say you are all starting to worry me. I've been on Depo for over three years now, and I have never experienced any serious side effects: I HAVE lost my period (which I was told is quite normal) and for a brief time period (maybe six months) I produced "breast milk". But I would like to have another child some day. I have been told that the longer you are on depo, the longer the effects take to wear off. It sounds like the effects of birth control may never wear off from what I have read here. I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, as well, but it almost sounds like some of the symptoms some of you have talked about are close the the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. Maybe I don't have FM at all, or even as badly as I thought. I am continuing my research in Depo Provera and have a couple of questions. 1: When you started experiencing symptoms/side effects did any of you report this to Pharmacia-Upjohn? 2: when you reported these symptoms to your health professional, did they make the link to Depo Provera? If not, why? 3: Before starting Depo Provera did your health professional explain to you what was involve - ie the side effects you might experience? 4: What was you main reason for going on Depo Provera? 5: Before going on Depo Provera did your health professional know of your physical and mental history ie family history of cancer, especially breast cancer, blood disorders and depression? 6: How many times have you changed doctors because of this? 7: Have regeristered your complaint of Depo Provera with the FDA and what was they reponse? My, now ex-girlfriend took the shot in June of 2003 and everything quickly went down hill from there. She didn't get all the side effects from her doctor and felt cheated. This medication has made her have mood swings, depression, she is very short with people, including her daughter. Very tired, which is caused by the anemia. i would not recommend this shot to anyone. It doesn't make you think straight. Now I am paying the price by loosing the one that I loved because of this shot. I am in the hopes that after the shot "wears" off she will realize that it was the shot making her think the things she thought.-- posted by Officer21 » robnhood6 - Re: PCOS In response to message posted by DepoCrazy:I have been "diagnosed" with PCOS (poly cystic ovary syndrome)...and insulin resistence...and I am sure they'll think of something else soon. I have no cysts, but the doctors just can't admit that Depo has killed my hormones. So they have to call it something. I have weight gain, abnormal insulin levels, high testosterone, acne, unwanted hair, "foggy" thinking, abnormal menses, the list just goes on and on. After a week or two of taking the shot I bled lightly on and off for 2 1/2 months. Then after I never got the second shot I never had a period. I went to an obgyn in 4/1999 because I still had not had a period and also I had this huge lump in my breast. OBGYN put me on provera (a pill to induce your period). Within 4 days I had a period. I have been taking Depo-Provera since december of 2001 and my case has been pretty normal. The first three months I had severe mood swings but it stopped after the second shot. The only other side effects that I have had is amenorrhea (no menstrual bleeding), spotting, decreased sex drive, vaginal irritation,no lubrication and I fluctute five to ten pounds in given week 110-120lbs. I am writing in because I am scared when I decide to get off the shot. I am 19 years old and I am not planning on having children until I am at least 25 years of age. And being a woman, it is instinct to want to be a mother. And it would be REALLY devestating if I found out that I can't have or would be harder to have children just because of this Depo-Provera contraceptive injection! I want to be a mother just not right now. My questions are; will it be harder to have children the longer I am on the shot, will my syptoms get worse after I stop, and does the cons way out the pros to stop taking Depo-Provera, if so which bithcontrol could you recommend? I am just scared about my body and the Future, from reading all these horror stories from all thses women that have had bad experiences and major health problems because of Depo-Provera.
