My husband is addicted to ephedrine. I can always tell when he's taken it because of a dramatic personality change. He gets extremely defensive and aggressive over the slightest thing. This has been going on for years. I find empty bottles all around the house. Does anyone know how closely related ephedrine is to amphetimines? I know nothing about either drug. Thank you for reading this.

I used to date a former methamphetamine addict who also used to manufacture methamphetamine. He told me at one time that ephedrine is a key ingredient in the drug. He no longer used meth when I dated him, but he was addicted to ephedrine. I, too, would find empty bottles, and there was a dramatic personality change when he was using it. He would stay up for hours to work on things, while sweating profusely and rocking back and forth. He became very aggressive and accusatory, and we had terrible arguments.

One thing about addicts, you can never depend on them to tell the truth.

Another thing about them, even if their addiction is under control, it will have taken its toll on the health and personality.

I am intensely interested in the subject because my younger brother went through hell with a hard drug addiction, and even though he is totally free from drugs now, there are scars which can never be erased. I have written about how he was delivered from the addiction in this article:

Ephedrine is in pure form is illegal in Australia so what formula I wonder is he hooked on...bottles everywhere? Ephedrine is apparently cheaper than amphetamines here...both are stimulants (uppers). They are commonly used by steroid users with those well known side effects.

Adverse effects of ephedrine include:
Anxiety, sweating, agitation, fear, insomnia, hallucinations, confusion, delirium, palpitation, tachycardia, extrasystoles, urinary retention, fatal dysrhythmias, hypertension, foetal tachycardia (during labour). Heart attack if injecting.

Adverse effects of amphetamine include:
Increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, reduced appetite and weight loss, insomnia
headaches, convulsions, hallucinations and paranoia. Death may also occur due to ruptured blood vessels in the brain, heart attacks, heart rhythm abnormalities and heatstroke.

Not to mention the adverse effects on a suffering spouse who just maybe oughta think about getting out or letting her waste a similar amount of money.
