» tomcunliffe - "Fighting" CFS The writer says, "Even though you feel too tired to do anything, you need to force yourself to exercise within limits and gradually increase the amount of exercise".this is in fact the most dangerous advice for CFS sufferers. The danger is that by fighting the fatigue they will hinder their recovery and confirm the disease in its "chronic" state. Medical authorities in Great Britain (where I live) are agreed that fighing the illness in this way is a sure way to end up with having it for years and years. Rest, in copious amounts is the answer, and rather than "fighting" the illness, you should "give in" to it and go with the flow. When your body says its time to exercise, you'll know it. If your mind says you SHOULD exercise, you need to re-examine your attitude and realise that this illness does not go away through your own efforts. -- posted by tomcunliffe » cubfan - Re: "Fighting" CFS In response to message posted by tomcunliffe:My information about exercise for CFS sufferers comes from 2 reliable sources. 1) An article on WebMD.com about CFS written by a team of doctors from Harvard Medical School. 2) An article by Steven Reid which appeared in the Jan. 29, 2000 issue of the British Medical Journal. CFS is a controversial diagnosis and there exist many differences of opinion regarding diagnosis and treatment. Thank you for your input. -- posted by cubfan
