» Renie_Burghardt - Langston Hughes-Poet Laureate of Harlem Hi Nichel, I enjoyed the article on this extraordinary person and poet, Langston Hughes! The Weary Blues truly makes the reader experience that black piano player, playing the blues. Gave me goosebumps, just reading it. You have done such a wonderful job with the Black History Event, Nichel. All the articles have not only been great, but a great learning experience, and so inspirational as well. Kudos to you, my friend! Take care. The event is part of National Poetry Month (April) sponsored by the Academy of American Poets and says you may learn more about Hughes and National Poetry Month at www.poets.org - thought folks would like to know! What an honor! -- posted by jerrib » Nichel - Re: Celebrate Langston Hughes Poetry Day In response to message posted by jerrib:Hi Jerri, That sounds great! Some activities especially in Chicago are having a remembrance of Hughes many literary accomplishments that have already started in January 2002 - since this marks 100th year of his birth. That is one of the reasons why I wanted to really focus on him during February. Hughes was very influential to many people. Thank you for providing this event that is being sponsored by the Academy of American Poets. I too just love his poems. They are filled with such passion and truth of the human soul! All the best, -- posted by Nichel » cleopatrajones50 - Langston Hughes Langston Hughes loved Harlem and he loved black people. It is so apparent in his writings. He wrote with such honesty and force and told it like it was. I can only say that Mr. James Mercer Langston Hughes was the man in his time.-- posted by cleopatrajones50
