» Sunbear - Harlem and the Twenties

Hi Nichel,

I suppose if I have a specialty in literature it is the artists and writers from about 1890 to 1945. Included in this group are many figures from the Renaissance, such as Langston, Hughes, Countee Cullen, WEB Dubois, etc. Love the classical jazz of the period with the Cotton Club, Ellington and thought he is not black, am utterly mad about Gershwin.

Truly enjoyed this essay. Hope to see others on this subject, as it is an age that fascinates me. I have even had a past life memory of living in that era.

Take care,
Tom Martin

Greetings Tom,

I see we have a lot in common, acknowledging our (past lives), anyhow, yes Ellington was African-American, he was very very fair skinned. I too love this time period and felt that I sometimes get lost in that era by wearing my hair in that 1920s style. If you know what I mean smile

And I really enjoy literature by those writers back then - it is very hard to find that type of quality of writing these days.

Thank you for checking out Harlem; The 1920s part one and I hope you check out part two next week.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and a safe one!

Be Bless!

Nichel,

I did know, of course, that Ellington was African-American. I meant that I liked Gershwins so much from that era even though the two brothers were white.

I DO like those hairstyles from the Twenties, especially those "whateverucallit" headpieces that cover the head and dangle all over the head and down into the face.

Not opposed to flapper dress either. . .

Tom
