a little right of green
This archived discussion is "read only".
» atribeofone - a little right of green I have slowly been becoming more and more active in politics, inspired by our "wonderful" president, the possible war in Iraq, and of course my favorite show, the west wing! I started researching the green party as an outlet for my creative powers and what I saw pleased me- a commitment against war, a strong ecological plank, social and economic justice. But I was shocked, and dismayed by what I read in the party official platform. The platform seemed to me to be so far left that it alienates most Americans, it contains contradictions such as speaking out against intervention in other countries only to advocate later helping peacekeeping missions to stop aggression and genocide after just advocating that the military be reduced by 75% and designed for defensive tactics only! I confess I am confused, because I support the vision of the green party but the means by which the wish to carry out this vision is to far left, unrealistic, and potentially damaging! I think with the threat that the US is under from terrorists and others who would wish us ill is stronger than ever we cannot to dismantle the military. I agree that we are in the place we are now because of intervening policies, encouraging a backlash of fundamentalism against our consumerism and polices towards third world countries but I think that the green party platform is too much- I do not think it would be healthy to stop the drug war but I do think that drug addiction should be uncriminalized and treated as a disease. How do reconcile these and more differences, or do I just give my time money and attention the democratic party?-- posted by atribeofone
