» Purpleflame - Thanks Linda!

I appreciate all the research and thought that went into this article. It's odd.... last week I saw a piece on this proposed dam on the History Channel! Their slant was about all the archeological sites that would be drowned by it, although they seemed to buy the Turkish gov'ts line on how beneficial it would be for those currently living.

Yes, the Turkish government does tend to think that it would be very beneficial, but then they are not noted for worrying about what their Kurds think, are they?

This dam has a whole gamut of impacts and implications - environmental, archeological, human rights, social exclusion, ethnic justice, etc etc. Indeed there are few campaigns where so many objections can be stated. Despite this, both the Turkish government and those firms who stand to make profit remain adamantly deaf and blind to the consequences.

The piece I saw had no interviews with any of the people who would be negatively impacted by the project. So I assume that the Turkish gov't had some kind of control on what was to be aired before allowing the piece to be filmed.
It is sad that so many gov'ts. around the world are so deaf and blind to the needs of the people they supposedly serve.
