FOR PEAT'S SAKE!Read the article this discussion is about

» Jojo - peat moss Hi LindaGreat article! You've mentioned some great alternatives to using peat. I am definately on the no peat use bandwagon. Commercial growers, of which I am one, will often moan about lack of other reliable sources for their growing mixes. Their livelyhood depends on getting something that works for them. Addicted to peat? We all are if we purchase annuals and vegetable transplants in the spring. Gone are the days when pansies were feild grown and put into newspaper bundles. Then again, gone is the top soil from that particular pansy farm. It's been over a year since I wrote my tirade, Peat Moss Sucks. I've come to the conclusion that our conceptions of gardening need to change on the whole if we are to save the peat bogs, from the way we access our plants to what is expected of the garden in the first place. -- posted by Jojo » Linda_Little - Campaign Article? Would you like this article as part of the GREEN HOME CAMPAIGN CLUB? If so, I will get a letter made up so that you can protest about the use of peat and the destruction of peat bogs.-- posted by Linda_Little » Purpleflame - Re: Campaign Article? In response to message posted by Linda_Little:I would like to know who/where to contact to protest the destruction of peat bogs. So, my vote is yes, add it to your campaign club. I don't use peat in my garden, mainly because I have plenty of compost and then too, use coffee grounds do a better job. -- posted by Purpleflame
