I wanted a horse more than anything. Living in the middle of a city, that wasn't about to happen! Books are a wonderful substitute - they let you dream! -- posted by Tina_Coruth » Red - Re: These look In response to These look posted by jerrib:Jerri, Wait until I write about the dinner show we saw in Florida. It was at Arabian Knights and it was awesome. The horses were beautiful and we all thought it was the best part of the entire trip. The boys thought it was better than the Magic Kingdom, so you know how great it was. Yes, horses are beautiful animals and most kids love them. So, I decided it was time to do a couple of reviews on horse books. Thanks for dropping by and opening this discussion thread. It's always nice to see you here. -- posted by Red » Red - Re: Re: These look In response to Re: These look posted by Tina_Coruth:Tina, Yes, books allow us to follow our dreams in our imaginations. I'm glad that you enjoyed the article. We had plough horses when I was a kid and we used to hop on them bareback. Punch was a beautiful horse and so gentle with us kids. I always rode him. My brother rode Maude, who was a bit more adventurous, as he was older. We used to have lots of fun and we even had our share fair of spills. I remember once that Punch lowered his head to drink from the creek. I wasn't expecting it and fell right over his head into the water. I was upset at the time, but it's a fun memory now. Sorry you didn't get to have your horse. Did you ever ride when you got older? -- posted by Red

These books look so good, Mary. If I were a kid again, I'd be reading them. I loved horses when I was a kid, I read all the Black Stallion books and like Tina, drew pictures of horses. Living in the country we had a plow horse, ole Bill, but I also had my own horse, Starlight. -- posted by Joy Butler » Red - Re: Re: These look In response to Re: These look posted by JButler:Joy, Starlight is a beautiful name for a horse. What color was he/she? I'm sure you had some good times with that horse. These books are great for kids of all ages and the young at heart. Look them up at the local library. I'm sure that you would enjoy them. I also read all the Black Stallion books, as well as any other books about horses that I could lay my hands on. We didn't have much in the way of a library at school, so books were limited. We didn't get into town and I never visited the city library until I was in my teens. I did borrow and lend with my classmates though. That is how we got most of our reading material. -- posted by Red » Tina_Coruth - Re: Re: Re: These look In response to Re: Re: These look posted by Red:Yes, Mary. When I was older I had a few opportunities to ride a horse and I loved it! Ouch - Punch! It sounds like it was at least a good thing that you fell into the water and not on the ground. What wonderful memories you have! -- posted by Tina_Coruth » Red - Re: Re: Re: Re: These look In response to Re: Re: Re: These look posted by Tina_Coruth:Tina, I'm glad you did get to ride. It would have been a shame if you hadn't. It's always nice to realize a dream. Well, the water was softer than the ground, but it terrified me because I didn't know how to swim. I came up spittering and sputtering and very angry with myself. Yes, I'm very blessed with wonderful memories of my childhood. I focus only on the positive. Though the negative is also a part of life, it's best to remember the good times and leave the bad ones in the past. -- posted by Red
