Interesting history of the Great Plains, Mary. So tell me, does the granddaughter live in one of those sod houses as well? I enjoyed the article. Thank you. Renie

No, Renie, the granddaughter, myself who is now a grandmother, lives in a little ole house on the Great Washington State Desert. But the way the wind whips through this area sometimes it seem as though this house is going to turn into a soddy. Mary Trotter Kion

» Red - great historical information...

Mary, what a great article. It includes a lot of historical information that I know you must have spent hours researching.

I've heard those sod houses were warm and cozy in the winter when the hearth was blazing. Hard to comprehend how they could keep anyone warm. I would love to hear more about them.

Thanks for dropping over to my topic. I have subscribed to yours. When I have the time, I am going to explore it further.

Hi Red, I guess they would be something like living in an underground house above ground. I've another article planned on sod houses and have found a great web site to go with it. Thanks, Mary.
