Mary, your cat helping himself to the "cough remedy" is a riot. I would never get between a cat and catnip! LOLI knew that onions are considered beneficial, so I wasn't totally surprised by your mother's remedy - just the catnip part. As you pointed out, a lot of the old remedies are very good remedies. Studies have shown that chicken soup really is helpful when we have a cold or the flu.

Glad you liked it. That cat would do the same thing to a cup of coco or bowl of chocolate ice cream. I hung his Christmas stocking, with catnip in it, from the ceiling once to keep him out of it. I came home one day and he was swinging by his claws from the toe of his stocking. Needless to say, I miss him. He was a wonderful remedy for what ails you, all by himself.
