» Renie_Burghardt - Christmas in Germany! Hi Colleen! Christmas in Germany is pretty much like the Christmases I remember as a child in Hungary. And goose was always the traditional Christmas meal, before the war put an end to it, that is. Ah, all the foods you mention are making me salivate. Enjoyed the article very much.Froeliche Weinachten! (Hope that's spelled right!) Renie -- posted by Renie_Burghardt » biogardener - When in doubt Renie, when in doubt about what greeting to use as as a holiday wish, I always recommend you say, "frohes Fest" which applies to any religious holiday, Weihnachten, Ostern, Pfingsten. And if you want to avoid the Umlaut, you can say "frohe Weihnachten."A year ago, I published The Legend of St. Boniface. In that article, I tell of some of the German Christmas traditions and their origin. It is different from what you generally read in books or on the internet, because I wrote it the way it was transmitted to me in my childhood. The year, I decided to write about Advent Memories where I tell of my family's Advent traditions. Those to me are just as important as the Christmas traditions, and I miss them in North America where Christmas decorations appear as early as August. All the mystery is lost when you eliminate that period of expectancy, waiting for the coming of light into a dark world. That article is illustrated with my own artwork. I hope you will link some of your articles in the discussions to my articles. It will help people to find articles of common interest. -- posted by biogardener
