» not_him_again - Thanks Dennis

I certainly appreciate this article on one of my most favorite military history subjects.

Alexander was perhaps the world's first true "military genius" and may very well have been the best the world has ever seen. He had the cunning of Hannibal, the aggressivness of Lee, the cool head of Wellington, and the decisiveness of Napoleon. Even more, we may not have seen his best, because he died so young.

Virtually every one of his battles are textbook examples of tactical skill, especially Arbela and the Hydaspes. And he is one of the few commanders who excelled in both regualar and irregular warfare.

And his cavalry skill! Without a doubt (IMO) he was the best cavalry commander in history- his handling of the cav at Arbela is probably the finest example of its kind. Outnumbered, overlapped on both flanks, and with about a 5 to 1 disadvantage in cavalry- and he wins by a cavalry charge, after the Persians had been induced to overcommit their reserve!

Again, thanks Dennis! It's great to see interest in Alexander.
