» jerrib - This is a great stumbling block

isn't it? You've given some great ideas here to help folks.

I just recently added a genealogy category for WA State at my site. Please feel free to send folks to the links there to find help in Washington State.

Thanks for an excellent article!

Jerri

» RoslynT - Surname genealogy sites

Hi everyone. I created myfirst website in honour of my BLYTH ancestors:

http://www.tassie.net.au/~rteirney/

At first this site was very focussed on my own family and the only "stray" mentions of other branches were in the guestbook - shows how important it is to have a guestbook, by the way. Then I modified the site to add a Clinton page just for fun, because the former US president was originally born a BLYTH.

But then I realised that the way to GET moe information from my visitors was to GIVE them more ownership of the site so I took the emphasis off my own family in the next two pages I created and have had great support from my visitors, many of whom have not only signed the guestbook but "joined" my web community and shared their own research, making the site much more of a resource generally.

See what I mean by checking here:

» aggie80 - Soundex

One valuable tool when searching is to use the Soundex system. This was developed to help find alternative spellings and can be extremely helpful when looking though census records or searching databases.
