» RoslynT - Submitting to search engines

Before promoting your genealogy web-page, be very careful that your meta-tags are up to scratch.

You can submit to search-engines yourself individually but that is enormously time-consuming.

You could use the super-quick free services such as http://www.submitplus.com

but far better to follow the advice of search-engine submission specialists such as

http://www.selfpromotion.com

or

http://www.bruceclay.com

To prepare for the process and save online time, have your keywords ready to cut and paste.

I also think that any Genealogy Homepage without a Guestbook is really not finished. When you have a Guestbook, your visitors (who are generally pretty excited if they are researching the same family as you) will (a) say useful things which add value to your page and (b) be more satisfied when they leave, therefore be more inclined to come back.

In response to message posted by RoslynT:

Even better than a guest book is a message board. This makes it possible for people to ask questions about the family, and come back for answers.

You can check the one I have on my family history page at

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/7734/famhist1.htm

Or just apply directly at:

http://www.coolboard.com

These message boards can also be shared by other web sites.
