Anne,

Thanks for your kind words. I know what you mean about not realizing that it was something that no one wanted to talk about until I set out to write an article on it and so many people laughed (which of course made me *have* to write it :-]).

» ravenfairie - moon time, blood and women and now yeast infections!

Regina,

Thank you for visiting and reading my article. (I think we've started something) *grin*

coyote and others it the pad/tampon debate,

I've herd about the 'keeper' but never used it. I have used the 'instead' product which i think is the disposable version. I have washed it and used it over and over.

I usually clean it with lavender essential oil because it is anti-microbial, safe for you 'delicate' skin, and smells really nice.

I know aromathrapy writings tell you not to use essential oil undiluted, but lavender is safe to use neat. (it's great for burns and cuts too, doesn't sting) oh and it works great for yeast infections. A few drops on your panties is soothing and a few drops (with tea tree,) on an 'organic cotton tampon' will help to kill it.

And so will eating lots of pro-biotic foods, yogurt, kefir, wheat grass. (I'm really into the probiotics right now.)

Ahh it's so satisfying to use my four years of schooling to be helpful. *grin* smile

Anne,

I knew that tea tree oil was an anti-fungal. I had no idea about lavender. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, the Instead... that's what it was. I am small by american standards and it just didn't fit so I gave the rest of the box of them away to a larger friend.

lavendre is a lot more gentle on the skin than tea tree. I find tea tree very drying and harsh so i only ever use a drop or two with four or five drops of lavender.

» the_coyote - Enter my contest!

Hey, it looks like we're the only three folks in the entire Suite 101 community who *do* want to talk about "the curse"!

I've added links to both you guys' articles on my soon-to-be-infamous web page, The Red Tide Reading Room:http://www.suite101.com/mypage.cfm/Coyot...

Hopefully, by the time you read this, there will also be a link on that page that transports you to my "Name That Pad" contest. Curious? Beebop over to the bottom (where else?) of the Red Tide Reading Room, and click away!

Just so you don't think I'm here solely for shameless self-promotion, I did have a further comment on magnesium. Right before menses, a woman's serum magnesium level plummets, due to hormonal fluctuations. This is why we crave magnesium-rich chocolate when we're PMS-ing. Since magnesium is 'nerve food,' the lack of it in our blood at that lovely time of month will tend to make us, shall we say, a bit edgy.

» biogardener - How about the pain?

If men menstruated and had to suffer the same pain which I had to suffer for almost 40 years, the drug stores would run out of pain killers, the emergency rooms would be crowded with men, and every men's locker room would be dominated with comparison stories of who has the most painful periods.
