» Georgene A. Bramlage - My favorite

Susan,

Of the six perennials you've listed, the , daylilies would have to be my favorite!

There are so many species (yes, species!) and cultivars to choose from that it is possible for individual gardeners like myself to run from early in the season (June for me) to late (September to October for me) with something spectacular!

All American Daylilies is a great link on what American gardenerss consider the but there are also growing tips as well as other related links here. So, daylilies can provide something for almost every gardener except those in the tropics!

I also love dahlias and at various times have had many different cultivars. However, as you point out unless a gardener's climate is almost tropical - my understanding is that dahlias originate in Mexico (USDA zones 9-11) they are not really perennials. I religiously dig and store mine every winter only to loose a few of the choice ones each year!

In response to message posted by Cercis:

I'm so envious! Daylilies are one of my favourites, too, but I just don't have the room to have any. (Too many rhodos, I think!)

I do manage to make room for dahlias, though, even though I find it so frustrating every year when I go to plant them and find that "x" number of the tubers are worthless, usually because of rot.

How do you store yours?

Susan
