Of the six perennials you've listed, the There are so many species (yes, species!) and cultivars to choose from that it is possible for individual gardeners like myself to run from early in the season (June for me) to late (September to October for me) with something spectacular! All American Daylilies is a great link on what American gardenerss consider the I also love dahlias and at various times have had many different cultivars. However, as you point out unless a gardener's climate is almost tropical - my understanding is that dahlias originate in Mexico (USDA zones 9-11) they are not really perennials. I religiously dig and store mine every winter only to loose a few of the choice ones each year!

Daylilies are one of my favourites, too, but I just don't have the room to have any. (Too many rhodos, I think!) I do manage to make room for dahlias, though, even though I find it so frustrating every year when I go to plant them and find that "x" number of the tubers are worthless, usually because of rot. How do you store yours? Susan -- posted by sward4
