I live on the southern Oregon coast, so I know all about lashing raings and lush weeds.

I have started seeds too early this year because the Master Gardeners are having a plant sale in late May. I agree that this is too early, even though I really don't have to worry about frost. I never used to worry about frost after the first of March, but it has crept up to the the third week of March. I had better not get frost any later or I am going to complain to Mother Nature!

Great article, Susan.

Well, think of and pity us in the cool temperate climates of certain parts of Australia - The weeds manage to grow for 12 months of the year - thick mulch is one answer but what about the self seeding and welcome perennials? Too much mulch discourages them. So we [my husband and I] crawl all over the garden with a small Dutch hoe all year! Just as well we love gardening

Many plants we seed in Autumn - a few in the beginning of Spring. We try to copy the natural reproductive system of the individual plant
