» silvan - Lake Erie gardener This topic caught my eye, no question! My parents' home in Southwestern Ontario overlooks Lake Erie, and I grew up sleeping, playing, strolling and gardening to the background sound of waves. Now that I live away from the shoreline, I miss the lake so much.I also miss the milder climate. Though I'm only 300 km (180 mi) NE from my native soil, the frost here closes in about a month later and earlier on either end of the summer (their growing season is the end of April to mid October!). Lake Erie intensely moderates a narrow shoreline band. A small region of Ontario immediately north of the water is known as Carolinian Canada. Anyone who gardens in this area, as well as adjoining parts of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York, might be interested in my article about the loss of natural habitat there. In danger: Canada's deep south I look forward to your future articles. -- posted by silvan
