What could it be?

» gunnson - Sap? Hey! Great site!I am in N.CA and have a Crape Myrtle(Nantchez)that is well loved. In prunining it, I have found some strange sap like growth on the limbs. This growth is about 2inches long by a 1/2 inch wide. It looks like a sap colored cacoon made of tiny sections. I took one off the tree and cut it up. All I found was just what it appears and feels to be...hard sap. While I am new to my own garden, many years have been spent helping grandpa with his. I have never seen such a thing. There are about 5 of these things on the top of the main/center branch. All help would be greatly appreciated!!! -- posted by gunnson
