In response to message posted by matyldatb:Technically, you'll want to do the same to these that you would to any worm or caterpillar harming your plants.
Find some Bt to keep sprayed on the plants starting in March and perhaps into summer. Spray it every couple days or so because you want to catch the larva before they bore into the stalks. You can also put netting over your canes during March to prevent the moths/butterflies from laying the eggs in the first place.
Or you can follow the instructions set forth in my article on squash vine borers where you cut them out of the stalks, but you'd still lose parts of your plants that way.
Another idea is to use the Pyola from www.gardensalive.com (I'm not an affiliate but I wish I was as many times as I send people to them.) starting when moths begin to lay eggs. Pyola kills eggs, larva, and adults. Keep it sprayed on once a week before you see any signs of pests. Wear rubber gloves because it is a skin irritant, but don't let that small hazard prevent you from trying it.
You also want to attract parasitic wasps that prey on larva such as this by planting flowers of varying kinds throughout your yard in bright colors. Or you can buy wasps from Gardens Alive as well and don't forget to get ladybugs too.
Run through my other articles by clicking the "more articles" link at the bottom of my Garden Pest home page. Look for borer, caterpillar, and other similar type creatures in the titles.
