Dog & Bird Pests

» CGoodloe - Re: Dog & Bird Pests In response to message posted by beachnit:You may want to check with www.gardensalive.com and see if they have a dog repellent available. They may even have a bird repellent; however, your potted plants probably have bugs that bluejays like so they are getting rid of them for you. For bluejays, place wire inside your pots on the top of the soil to keep them from digging. (This works for digging cats and dogs too) You could put nets over your plants but that would ruin the look so you have to come up with a barrier inside the pot. Chicken wire is good idea, but you'll need wire cutters. Make sure it's a stiff wire that can't be dug up with their feet. Cloth and nylon won't work. You can try mulching with a type of rock. Perhaps the birds won't be attracted to the covered up soil. I just updated my Birds Article from July 28, 2000, with these ideas for container problems. Thanks for asking me about it. Let us here in the Garden Discussion know what you used and how it worked! Carla -- posted by CGoodloe
