» JaneHollis - My Confession

I have a terrible confession to make - I live just a few miles away from Sissinghurst, but have not yet visited the garden! For one, I have heard, seen and read *so* much about Sissinghurst that I suppose some of the mystery and anticipitation of exploration has been lost. And secondly, I am put off by the thought of all the crowds.

But this series of articles had made me realise I must visit it for myself. I think if I try going on a weekday at the beginning or end of the season, then perhaps it will not be so busy.

And a quick note to Betty, don't be put off by all the botanical names - it is easier to know them in the long run, as often there are many common names for one plant, but only the one Latin one. It means that people all over the world can discuss plants without confusion. An A-Z encyclopedia of garden plants is a real investment - not only will it tell you botanical and common names, but what conditions plants prefer and what care they need.
