» andier - The Age of Enlightenment I don't personally like the 18th century garden. The landscape designers of the time tried to put too much order into nature for my personal tastes. However, it is interesting to see how the concept of order and reason pervaded all areas of thought, only to be smashed by the chaos of the French Revolution. -- posted by andier » Kirk_Johnson - Order Andie, you might have prefered the picturesque gardens. Most writers about the eighteenth century say that the English landscape gardens represent an reaction against rational thinking. I personally find Brown's gardens too bland, too landscaped. But then, so many bland public parks have imitated his approach.-- posted by Kirk_Johnson
