» Georgene A. Bramlage - Thank you for continuing this series...

...it is best to focus on the entire “picture” that your garden creates, rather than focusing on the details of a flower bed...

Ah, Kirk it is so easy to get up close and personal with a flower bed...isn't it. And then we wonder why we don't like the way the bed looks! Maybe we need to emulate Monet and Gertrude Jekyll...both of whom were apparently going blind when they did their best work.

Sit in a comfortable chair a distance back from the bed or area with which you're concerned...Squint one's eyes or place a loosely woven piece of cloth over glasses or eyes to obtain a gauzey view...and then see how the proportions and contrast play out. You might be able to do this by putting gauze / cheecloth / mist filter over a camera lense...but I like playing in 3-D better smile

We can almost obtain contrast by doing a diagram on paper, but we never really know until we see what happens in the garden.

Have a good day...I suspect your early Spring plants are blooming smile
