» MaggieM - Fungi and other stuff Hi Howie - I really liked this article on the fungi. When I was a young teenager and we had a cottage, I collected every kind of fungi I could find and was not prevented by my parents from bringing them home in cardboard boxes to "study". I eventually had to throw them away. My folks directed me to the compost pile. My husband, Jack, of 33 years will not eat any "shroom" even from the grocery store. But they fascinate me to this day. I love the Indian Pipes best - your woods south of Lake Ontario and my woods, on the North side, have so much in common. You get more snow and live in a rural area. Not me, its a tiny city lot. But we have access to the woods and I can't wait to get out to our friends's home and 8 acres and do the "look at that" spring thing of all the different plants. Boy, am I ready! I am so tired of winter. Starting some of my seeds this weekend, then for the next two months weeks I'll be hard pressed to find space under my lights to up-pot, start later seeds....I can't wait. I have eaten giant puffball.....brought to my in-laws' house some years ago, and many times! by a friend of theirs who had a field where they gre so well. I always look low and hard when I'm walking through the woods to find these delicate, if not edible, beauts. Thanks for this articleMaggie in Guelph -- posted by MaggieM
