Avacados grow stronger when sprouted in soil rather then planting an avacado pit with water roots. The trees can be prunned to keep them stout for a houseplant.

A seedling needs to grow for 7-10 years before you can expect blossoms. I've seen trees 40' tall in south Florida, where the owners let the fruit fall and rot on the ground. Many will sprout from the over ripe fruit.

Tell me more about the pruning. My husband stuck an avacado seed in the pot of my corn plant. It sprouted and is now almost a year old. so far it is 5 ft tall and just sent out 2 "arms". Since its roots are all mixed in with the corn plant we have decided to let them continue to grow together. I am afraid if I try to seperate them the Avacado will die.
If I am going to prune to keep it from getting too big I will need to know when and how to prune. Our ceiling is 25' so there is some room.
