» Bill_Samuel - Uninstalling Most, but not all, programs add things to the registry. Removing a program by removing its directory will leave those entries in the registry. Some smaller programs do not add anything to the registry, and your suggestion works fine for them. But generally it is better to use the operating system's uninstall option, and then go back and delete the directory for any files it did not remove. -- posted by Bill_Samuel » Brian_Hughes - Re: Uninstalling In response to message posted by Bill_Samuel:Thanks for dropping by Bill and you're right, it's the Registry entries that can be the problem... as well as the very tricky part. Nobody should try cleaning up the Registry manually. One small utility that I've found very useful is RegCleaner - http://www.jv16.org/ I'm not sure what you mean by "...use the operating system's uninstall option" are you referring to the "Add / Remove Programs" feature? -- posted by Brian_Hughes » consumer - Re: Re: Uninstalling In response to message posted by Brian_Hughes:I'd really appreciate any further advice you may have about removing the supporter5/e-scorcher programme. I followed the instructions you gave in the March 2002 article (http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/1033... Attempts to uninstall e-scorcher using Add-Remove Programs have failed, and I cannot uninstall supporter5.exe as it tells me the programme is in use. I'm at my wits' end as to what to do next - can you help?? -- posted by consumer
