» DutchDude - why?????

Besides being a possible reaction to an adrenaline rush caused during the murder are there perhaps also psychological explanations to why some killers defecate or utilize feces in other manners at the crime scene?

This is purely an educated guess as to why some killers defecate or utilize feces at the crime scene. However, in order to understand why killers might use feces in this way, we must first understand that many killers function at man’s most basic level similar to that of a wild animal. They could be "imitating" that which they perceive to be occurring in nature. "Marking one's territory," if you will. On the other hand, if you are speaking of the killer doing something with the victim’s feces, we’re talking about achievement. Many times, killers like to see the fear in their victim’s eyes right before they murder him/her. That said if a killer makes her/his victim so scared that s/he defecates, the killer may regard this as a compliment or accomplishment and bask in the glory. Again, this is just my speculation of the feces situation.

i realize this is a rather late reply, but i just joined and found your question intriguing. i think the idea of an adrenaline rush is not sufficient a motive for the use of feces during a murder.

murder is an act of control. this can be equivalent to frueds anal stage of psychosexual development. during this stage a person masters control of ones bowels. by the murderer defecating, or use of feces, on the victim, displays the perpetrators ultimate control of his/her victim. for what its worth, thats my theory.

» Scintillate29 - I don't think so.....

Freud's psychosexual development anal stage would imply that the perp. had left some psychic energy in that stage that would not allow them to successfully move into the next stage without some kind of conflict presenting itself, even if much later in life. At the anal stage children are looking for positive reinforcement from their caregivers. If they are pushed into the potty-training mode too quickly then it may be possible that some inner-conflict at that stage will rear it's ugly head later in life. It's presence will more than likely take the shape of rebellion and resentment of authority figures even rules, regulations, standards, etc.. The perp. may even want to humiliate the victim by defecating on them in some feeble ill attempt to vanquish their own remembered humiliation of a particular time in their past. It may just be an added attempt to ascertain control and assuage feelings of powerlessness. Just an thought! I know, I know, a long long long thought! I just joined this site and I think it is interesting! Thanks!

In response to DutchDude's question from above...

I view this whole topic very bizarre and never thought about it much or as to why some killers do such a thing.iv'e heard allot of great responses but i may be believe that it maybe due part on the killer's "subconscious-thinking" as to deceive or "throw-off" the person, thus, making their job allot harder for them to solve/detect/or assess any psychological explanation(s) as to why such a person would do such a thing in a murder case.
but again I view killers/serial killers as being very smart individuals as to what they do, having their plan A, plan B, and C; how going about the murder (when and where), how they might psychologically assess "subconsciously think" as mentioned above* ways to deceive anybody in thinking that the "feces" left behind was a hidden-clue or insight as to say why???.

this is a late reply , but I just happen to find this forum, I'm studing forensic science, and recently attended a seminar on criminal profiling so this is just my logistic thought to your question...it's hard to say if we don't know wether the killer has committed murder before or not,I.E. has exprienced killing as in the case of serial killers. but lets say its his first or most gastly of murders, this can trigger this reaction. also the enviorment in wich he committs the crime, say it's some place where, if it was an opportunity crime (non planed, disorganized) he may lose bowel and bladder control(and even vomit) as his subconciously realizes what he has done and the fear of getting caught makes him lose control.(his nerves betray him) some people think this may be a sighn of remorse, but most psychologist don't agree. yet on the other hand if this is a pattern or ritual(signature) that he does during his series of killings then you can say that it well may be a concious act were sexual fatasies come to play, as a way to demean, degrade and humiliate his victum, there fore making him feel superior, as cjgirl and Scintillate29 mentioned above; an act of control. in wich he may use to hide child hood traumas. just my 2 cents.
