In a related vein, I read where Joe Horn, the showoff guy who pulled a cell phone out of the padding of a goalpost once when he made a touchdown and was fined for his display, made another sort of display today, and this one showed a humanitarian side of Horn.

He went to the Astrodome to visit the people of New Orleans. He didn't have to do it; no one else on his team, or any other team did it, but Joe Horn did. According to the news account I read, he spent three hours there, interacting with young and old alike, holding babies, playing games with kids, talking to adults. He signed autographs. And he came away with a renewed vigor to play football.

Horn says he can play now because that's what the people in the Astrodome want him and the team to do--play football. The team is an extension of the people and their hope, just as sports teams generally are--only in this situation, it goes far beyond bragging rights on the football field alone.

My hat is tipped to Joe Horn.
