» feistyfemale56 - The best of the best I agree wholeheartedly with the praise you've written for Emmitt Smith. I've always been impressed with his football skills, but his attributes as a human being are awe-inspiring.I've never admired the sports figures who are "hotdogs," the ones who toot their own horns so loudly and so often that no one else can compete with them--anyone can do that. It takes a mature individual, a man in this case, to allow his skills to speak for themselves and to quietly go about his community activities without needing a public slap on the back. Emmitt Smith is just such a man and I can only hope there will be young men who want to follow in his footsteps. -- posted by feistyfemale56 » Tom - Re: The best of the best In response to The best of the best posted by feistyfemale56:Hi Deb, Smith is definitely one of the greatest, if not THE greatest. I remember quite a few years ago when the Cowboys had a great running back by the name of Robert Newhouse. If I'm not mistaken at one time they were boasting that he had 44" thighs. I remember watching him run, and taking at least two linemen with him most of the time. His legs were so powerful that they couldn't bring him down unless they hit him really low. What was that fellow's name who played for Houston, the "Rose of Tyler Texas?" Campbell? What that it? And then we have to remember the old familiar saying, "There goes Riggins!" The Redskins called him back off of a farm somewhere in Missouri or Kansas to win the Superbowl for them, and he did it. -- posted by Tom » TJSampson - Re: Re: The best of the best In response to Re: The best of the best posted by Tom:Earl Campbell was "The Tyler Rose." He was the number 1 draft pick in 1978 chosen by the Houston Oilers to wear #34. Career stats: 9,407 yards rushing, 806 yards receiving, 74 total touchdowns, and 10,213 total yards. He ranks tenth on the all-time rushing yards in the NFL -- posted by TJSampson » Tom - Re: Re: Re: The best of the best In response to Re: Re: The best of the best posted by TJSampson:
