» Sunbear - Feelings

Hi Kelly,

Enjoyed this article, a nice reminder to keep in touch with our feelings.

I well remember one time when I was changing careers and would pass by an office where people who practiced this career were located. I got this terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. I realized that I did not want to do this job, but I had already invested so much time, energy and money in educating myself for it, that it was hard to turn back.

Of course, the change did not work out and eventually I wound up in another career path. That song may be an "oldie," but it sure does tell some "truthies."

Sincerely,
Tom

Kelly,
Great article.

We should all listen to our feelings more often.
Sometimes we ignore them as we feel duty bound to go in a certain direction. Sometimes this happens for a long time, but in the end the feelings will win.

Today I went with my feelings, it was a lovely day after a stretch of unusually cold and windy weather for our summer(Australia) which is usually scorching hot at this time of year. A beautiful sunny day, not too hot, just right for doing the washing or the garden, as the ground was nice and damp after rain. I was tempted to do both of these things, neither unpleasant and both necessary, but I had a painting on my mind, I just knew that if I got into it today it would paint itself, so I went with my feelings, the washing was not urgent, the gardening will get done before too long. The painting did turn out very well, I am very pleased with it.

This is not an earth shattering experience, but I did go with my feelings and it was successful in a small way.

Crabapple.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I had the same experience. I pursued something I was very unsuited for for about six years. Put a lot of effort into being good at it, etc. But the job often made me feel physically ill. I thought the problem was me, I suppose, and could be corrected if I worked hard enough at it. I wish I'd known then what I know now! Live and learn, as they say ...

All the best,

Kelly

Hi CrabApple,

Nice to hear from you! Yes, I agree that your feelings will always win out in the end. You can resist them, I've done it, but it's like holding back the tide. I think we always know what is right for us even though we may try to deny it. I think the example you give illustrates this perfectly - I'm glad you decided to paint! Thanks for reading.

All the best,

Kelly

P.S. Envy you that warm summer day!

but as a sandwich generation member it's really hard to do what you want to do when you have family to consider when you'd like to make a move.

Guess, as you said, need to trust those feelings.

Hi Jerri,
Thanks for reading. Of course, there are always many factors, big and small, to consider when you are making a decision, and family is the top consideration for many. Sometimes regardless of how we feel we have to do what we have to do, don't we? That's life!

All the best,
Kelly
