» Renie_Burghardt - I know

I know the feeling, Virginia! I'm only a few years younger than you, so I was just teasing you about your age.

Actually, I stopped by to tell you I tried your grandmother's recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes, today, and they were delicious! And they really are good with Hot Sauce. Now I need a recipe for a good pickled green tomato. Somewhat on the sweet side, but not too sweet. I had some in a Southern restaurant, last week, and it was mighty tasty.

Living right on the beach sounds heavenly, Virginia!

» Tina_Coruth - I loved the movie.

I loved the movie and I love this article. Now I will have to put fried green tomatoes on my list to try. I intended to when I saw the movie, but never did. I have high hopes to make it this time -- after all I managed the chipped beef within a few months time! LOL Actually, I have time to start haunting the family to bring me some green tomatoes. It will be a while yet. What is a good size for frying?

Virginia, I'm so happy for you -- living at the beach. It must be wonderful!

» Dubh_Sidhe - Pickled Green Tomatoes

Renie, my recipe is so close to those posted, I thought I would post this instead so you or anyone could peruse a great list of recipes for them:
1. Go to google (just type in google and the entire URL will be displayed.)
2. When you get to the google search engine, type in pickled green tomatoes
3. It will take you to pages with great recipes for this.
The first one and one from the Morton's Salt people sound great to me.
Yes, indeed, beach living is super. I love to walk the beach early mornings and wiggle my toes in the sand.

A good size for frying is any size you want! Hee! Hee! Actually, as long as they are firm, size does not really matter. I have had them from medium-ish to beef-steak tomato size. For picky eaters who eat like a bird, large slices would panic them. For folks with hearty appetites, small slices would require more slices to cook, so just sort of play it by ear.
So, you liked that Stouffer's creamed chipped beef, huh? I think their white sauce is really delicious for a frozen dinner. Of course, the serving size for one pack is two, which is quite small, I think. When I have it for myself alone, I can easily enjoy the entire pack over 2-3 slices of toast! If I serve it for two, I would have to use 2 packs. Perhaps I pig-out! Thanks for stopping by.

» Tina_Coruth - If we were to have a chipped

If we were to have a chipped beef lunch together, we would each need to bring a package! LOL I'm with you -- I would just as soon dump the whole package on two slices of toast. The white sauce is delicious.

Thanks for the information about the tomatoes. I have a cast iron frying pan, not anywhere near as special as your Grandma's -- but it will have to do!

» Dubh_Sidhe - Cast iron fry pay

Christina, all cast iron fry pay are special. Just keep using it and oiling it and before you know it, it will get that permanent black crust that you will swear by--like 5, 10, 15, 20 years!
LOL!

» Red - Virginia, I loved this...

article. You have done a superb job with it.

Since tomato season has not started here yet, I have plenty of time to make use of your recipe. Thanks for posting it. It sounds delicious.

I thought the movie was great. I watched it twice and that is very unusual for me.

Virginia, I would be honored to have you submit this article to my Childhood Memories Event. I have just read and approved your other article. It was fantastic and will add much to the event.

You have great memories of your grandparents as I do. Grandparents are special and I hope I give my grandsons the same wonderful memories that our grandparents have given us.
