» Tina_Coruth - Fantastic! Wonderful article. I knew how to translate the words Duibh-sidh, but now I understand it's significance to you. What a rich and wonderful history!Your link to the Great Hall of the Clans lead me to read about the MacTavish Clan. One of my family lines is Thompson and I recently learned that it may very well be from MacTavish. So I was very interested to read about the name on this site. You may have put me on to something here! One more comment -- I found your mention and links to the claymore and the battle of Colladen very interesting. The first time I ever heard of either was years ago when I first discovered the Irish singers, Makem & Clancy. They tell the story of the Battle of Colladen in the very moving song, Sound the Pibroch! Great article! Christina -- posted by Tina_Coruth » folklorist_too - Bravo! As always, Virginia, great job. The history of the family connected with folklore was very interesting and intriquing. As always your highlighted areas lead me to other websites of interest and I usually end up bookmarking at least one (at least). Thanks to your incredibly well researched and written articles my bookmark list goes on and on and on and that's great! Thanks.Wanda -- posted by folklorist_too » Dan_Ellsworth - That's more than *I* know ... ...about my Scottish roots - through Grandpa (Charles) Wilson. I was told the Wilsons (his, at least) come from the Gunn clan, which appear to have lived at the north edge of Scotland and might be part Viking. Their motto is Latin for "Either peace or war," which is not exactly Clint Eastwood's "Make my day," but close enough.Nice job. Can you arrange to kave a pen kiss the Blarney stone? -- posted by Dan_Ellsworth » Dubh_Sidhe - Gunn Clan Hi Dan! I have read some very interesting info on the Gunn Clan. You should persue it and get your genealogy spots together.-- posted by Dubh_Sidhe » Dubh_Sidhe - Christina and Wanda... I don't know what happened to my message to you. I guess an early Y2K bug gobbled it up. I am so happy that the article provided you with some helpful information.~dubh sidhe -- posted by Dubh_Sidhe » Douglas - Clan Macfie story I am MacDhubhsith , son of DubhsidheI like your story on the Clan, I have been trying to make a short write up to have as a hand out when I attend the local Highland Games but I have found it very difficult to keep it short like yours After having read the eight volumes written by Dr Earle Douglas MacPhee on " the Mythology Traditions and History of MacDuhbhsith - MacDuffie Clan " I do not know what to cut out, there really are so many good parts ??? How did you every manage to get it so short with out thinking you were leaving some of it out ???? It must have been very difficult ....
You do know of course that the Clan is represented by 6 yes 6 Societies here in North America Clan Macfie of North America
Doug Macfie -- posted by Douglas » Dubh_Sidhe - Clan Macfie Hi Doug! Articles here can't be too long, so I have to cull and cut corners. Someone named Bill(smile) once told me that the shorter one makes a statement, the more difficult it becomes to get a point across. I often feel that I miss my point completely, because a professional writer, I am not! So, I do appreciate the fact that you found my brevity adequate. I am a member of the Macfie Clan Society of North America. Good to hear from you! -- posted by Dubh_Sidhe » scottishrose6 - Clan MacFie This was a great site regarding the clan. My family changed the name when they came over from Scotland to America. They changed it to MacDuffee and ended up in New York of all places :smile:For those interested there is a site that is called cornframe and it is the newletter from the Isle Of Colonsay. It's very interesting and informative! -- posted by scottishrose6
