» Dubh_Sidhe - Easter Island Excellent, Larry. I thoroughly enjoyed this piece. When it comes to Easter Island, I have always been an investigative person, not so much as to the origin of the Easter people, but rather to their demise. My interest has also been on the demise of other tribes, and I have come to a general opinion. It is loosly what I call a Jonestown opinion, for lack of another adjective or noun, though not necessarily for the reasons bringing about Jonestown. One thing that seems to be shared among these vanishing people are great symbols associated with them, ie the monuments with the Easters. It is strange that where people, for no know reason disappear, their monuments become a modern symbol of survival. Case in point - the 960 Jews who committed suicide -- posted by Dubh_Sidhe » systematicerrors - Re: Easter Island In response to Easter Island posted by Dubh_Sidhe:Thanks Virginia You pose food for thought. I guess it all boils down to something in the human psyche. There are many instances of mass suicide throughout history. More than one group has disappeared almost without a trace such as the Sinagua Indians of Verde Canyon in Arizona. Perhaps part of the answer can be found in Freud's death wish and part in traumatic events that overwhelmed the population. -- posted by systematicerrors
