Hi Julie,

Climate shock for you too I read.
I miss my zone 7 garden too, I now live in hot sleepy Victoria - Australia.

We have had water restrictions for nearly two years now, looking forward to talking with you and reading your articles.

Welcome and cheers - Gary.

Although I remain an Home Depot enthusiast. Their plant stocks, do leave a lot to be desired.

Living in St Petersburg, Florida, I would much appreciate any information of more specialized plant & tree nurseries, in the Tampa area.

Lonciera, Honeysuckle vines, Stephanotis,
citrus trees & palms, would be of great help.

Thanking gardening Buffs in advance.

John,
Are you familiar with Jene's Tropicals Log Cabin Garden Center? It's located at 6831 Central Avenue in St. Pete's. Phone 344-1668. When I was there last month she had a large selection of vines, including Stephanotis and several cultivars of Lonicera. She specializes in rare fruit trees and all types of citrus. She also carries large trees and had a good variety of palms, plus perennials, orchids, aquatics, herbs and many tropicals. She has a mail order business- check out her website at http:// www.tropicalfruit.com
There is also a related business called Log Cabin Garden Center at 101 Pasadena Avenue, South. I've never been there, but it may be worth a visit. The number is 343-4204.
Another nursery I can recommend is Armenia Nursery, located at 5904 North Armenia Avenue in Tampa. Phone (813) 877-236
If you enjoy flea markets and mysteries, this is the place for you. Treasures abound, you just have to be willing to look under the benches and overlook the chaos of literally thousands of plants packed everywhere. Many nice specimens of succulents, bromeliads, orchids, tropicals, perennials, etc. It's a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon...
By far, the best place to purchase plants is at the University of South Flordia Botanical Garden's semi-annual plant festival. Call 974-2329 for more info or to get on their mailing list. The spring festival, held on April 10th and 11th, featured 57 nurseries, plant societies and vendors of everything botanical. Admission is only $1. The fall festival will be held in September.
Upcoming events at the USF Botanical Garden include a Butterfly and Herb Fair scheduled for June 12 and 13th and a Tropical Plant Fair to be held on July 9, 10th and 11th.
