a very thorough picture of some of the things you have to contend with, Angela and Robert, when you don't have enough help.It does seem people are volunteering less in fire departments, as I see signs asking for volunteers all the time. And around here, paid firefighters are getting let off because of budget constraints.
The public still expects the same service, though. That's the sad part.

In response to Re: This gave me posted by Smokediver:I joined because I felt it was the right thing to do, and I finally had time since I took a day-job. But when my day-job turned out to be a crock, and I went back on the road, my commitment to the community and my neighbors didn't go away. I commited, and I'm there when my schedule permits me to be. I honestly wish it was more often, I could use every ounce of training I could get. But when I DO make it...I know my help was well recieved, no matter if I was right there holding a car up so someone could get a victim out from under it, or if I was running bottled water to guys in the house fire. As long as I'm doing something that helps, I feel like my commitment is met...for a while...
