I have sensed the same thing about Filipino colonial mentality. I've sensed it with my parents, my relatives, and my friends. I often try to discuss it with them in a very civilized and mature manner but they've just labeled me as arrogant(arrogant?), and they seemed offended and perplexed by it, as if I don't know what I'm talking about. And if I demand the answer to WHY, they always say the same thing, "I don't know, it's just the way things are." It doesn't matter how much I try to show it to them, for them it's the norm, its what's expected of the "normal Filipino": prejudice is normal, an identity crisis is normal, following trends like a mindless monkey is normal, Hollywood is normal.It is SO PATHETIC.
