» SK8PRO - Adult Figure Skating

Why are adults afraid of ice skating? Could it be that the ice is hard? That is an excuse that can be easily overcome with the right protective equipment. The point? Stop being afraid! Ice skating burns more calories and provides a better aerobic workout than almost every other sport. The key is to wear the necessary gear, learn how to do it properly, and give it all you've got.
Why should the kids have all the fun? I've seen hundreds of adults who skate. Sure we fall. But we get back up and do it again. Nothing is more fullfilling than skating a program by yourself in front of an audience and judges and winning! The music, the moves, the choreography...these are all the essential elements of the skaters' programs we see on tv and here we are doing it! Sure we fall during our programs sometimes, but so do the pros! and more important, so what? Just like the pros, all we need to do is get up and do it again.
How about it? Are there any other adult skaters out there? Let's talk about it.

I teach figure skating to people of all ages. I know alot of adults who want to learn how to ice skate but are afraid of setting foot on the ice because of their fear of falling. My mother who is 60 years old sucked up her fear of falling, strapped on the skates and went out and did a wonderful job of skating around the arena. She went around very slowly but didnt fall once. Slow and steady wins the race is what i tell my skating students. So my advise to all adult skaters is to take your time when starting to skate because slow and steady does win the race.
