» LinEdwards - Great article Bob I enjoyed your article, and am looking forward to checking out your previous articles.It isn't just the travelling distance and all the wasted resources, pollution and so on that's the problem. The taste suffers as well from the food being picked too early and then ripening in storage, or even being sprayed with ethylene to artificially ripen things like tomatoes. They mostly have no taste at all. Not only that, but where's the variety these days? In my garden last year I grew six different varieties of tomatoes, none of which I've ever seen in a supermarket! Must be off. I have to go into my garden to see what's for dinner. Maybe some of those purple fleshed potatoes for purple mashed spHmmm Hmmm.
