I would agree that you should have an ENT check your throat. You may have a goiter or thyroid problem. If you feel that the lump swells when you are anxious or stressed, it could be thyroid problems.

I don't have fibro, but I had a severe problem with the lump in the throat feeling once. It quickly turned into long-term laryngitis. I was sent to see a specialist who diagnosed me with a viral infection of the vocal cords and ordered me not to make a sound for a solid month, and especially not to whisper. She said that whispering with laryngitis causes permanent damage to the vocal cords.I did as ordered, but I still suffered damage to the vocal cords. I am a singer and it was a year before I was able to sing again properly, and I lost half an octave off the range of my voice.
So if your lump in the throat is accompanied with loss of voice, be sure not to speak or whisper until it goes away. There is no medication which helps for a viral infection.

babalu84. How goes it?I notice that your message is dated 2003.
I hope that lump in your throat is gone by now and if it is...if you were really successful in getting rid of it, or learning better how to cope with it, I would sure appreciate any info you can impart to me, 'cause I've got the same thing.
If I exhale deeply it feels like the thing is traveling up my windpipe. It makes it extremely difficult to impossible to sleep when it flares up.
Have you had any luck in dealing with yours?

hey i have the same feeling in my throat! its really annoying and i dont know what to do about it.
im too scared to go to a doc. sometimes i feel like its near my nasal passage, and then back in my throat. it feels very strange .
did you figure out what u have?

I went to the ER tonight in so much pain, havnt slept since thursday morning, and have the same symptoms. I have came to these forums in my damn quest to find out wtf is up with me. (NOTE) its 8:26 am sat, morn 5/20/06 still havnt slept im pissed!!! I spent the eve in the ER of a local hopsital concerned it was cancer. I know im rambling but im tired, sore, and still have a huge lump in my damn throat. anyhow the ER Doc acted really strange about my symptoms. I Informed her I was concerned about it being a tumer she laughed. She told me I have Larengitis. I SHIT YOU NOT I told her its been in my throat for almost a month. (IT HAS) but it wasnt this anoing at first. i guess over the month ( maybe three weeks) more food has gotten caught inside whatever it get caught in. She gave me a referal to a " Ears, Nose and Throat DR. She told me to call him monday. I informed her of the importance. Again chuckled BAAHHH. Hers my opinion after spending three hours reading up on this new shit. Its caused by acid reflux. Acid reflux is caused by constipation. I never had this problem untill now. Iv had two back surgerys in the past year and expecting another. In having those back surgerys I have a lot of pain medication. In turn the pain medication gave me constipation. Hence the hurnia talk in other posts Iv read. ok iv prob made no sence miss spelled !!! a lot whatever, if somone knows how to get this stuff out yourself plz let us all know, I read push the back of your throat, theres a flap I got a peanut out BAH IV TRIED AND CANNOT DO IT ! HELP

Ok... I forgot to add I have been pushing the back of my throat. iv tried to throw up. when i push around the back of my throat it moves the hidden food close to somthing near my nose its SOO ODD\and it does make it impos to SLEEP i cannot wait till moday to get a hold of the throat doc once more thing,
When i take large bytes or try and eat fast. Food goes reallllly slow down somthing and its pretty painfull too.
