Canada: Fibromyalgia and CPP Disability Benefits
This archived discussion is "read only". » Angie_L - Unable to work at any job Cynthia is right about including that statement on a CPP app. After indicating an unknown recovery day, my Dr wrote that my disability is *permanent*. CPP does not accept that and every 2 years another form arrives, for a reassessment, in case of a miraculous recover. It used to disturb me (that I might lost my benefits), but now I understand how the feds work and send the form in. The strongest possible language is imperitive. My depression was reported as post traumatic stress disorder, after MVA and other disturbing events. All disorders included, from daibetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism to obesity resulting from lack of activity after being injured. All medical opinions came from specialists and I sent copies to CPP, private LTDI insurer. When it gets to the Medical Advisory Board at CPP, progress is being made. I also hear from Human Resources Canada, so we are generating lots of paper files. Strongest possible terms!-- posted by Angie_L » Elke - CPP and Fibromyalgia Can anyone help me with this one? I have never really worked, but gone to school and worked towards a degree in Psychology. (BA) For the last 4 months I have been on medical leave due to severe fibrofog, inability to concentrate as well as another major depressive episode. I am afraid that I will not be able to finish my studies and enter my chosen profession due to the cognitive disabilities associated with FM and Depression. Am I eligible to recieve CPP even though I have not really contributed to the Pension Fund?-- posted by Elke » cherrie - BATTLING WITH CPP I have been working on my appeal since 1996when my case was reveiwed after having my last child.I went to thier Doctor's and to a rehap. center for testing they have decided that I am appeal to work, even though thier assesmnet put in bed unable to take care of myself for four days, and it took me weeks to get over it.I recently got another assesmnet done that I paid for myself now the conclution is a sedentary job part time. I would like anyone getting an assesment done from a rehap.center have your pain measurment documented, this was not done on my first assesment the person doing the assesmnet just commented it suppose to hurt the pain after both assesments was unbareable no human should have to be through that so please beware its also unfare for our kids to see us suffer like that. I am at the last stage of my appeal it will be going to tribunal soon.and if I lose I will have -- posted by cherrie » cherrie - CPP APEAL Could anyone help me I will be going to tribunalsoon does anyone know of any studies for proff of wither or not Rehabilition can cure or improve your FM enough to go back to work and I don't mean from the Rehabilitation Centers themselfs after all they are selling somthing. How many of you have found rehab.benefical Reply soon.I don't of what else to do..... -- posted by cherrie » Angie_L - Rehab Reports Attending rehab did not help me to get better. However, attending rehab showed that I was making an effort to improve my condition. Most of all, it documented my limitations, from the time I first arrived for assessment, to the time I was discharged. All the professionals contributed to a final report, which was many pages long. I used that report, as they provided me and my dr with copies, when CPP conducted one of its periodical investigations to determine if my health had improved/deteriorated/stayed the same. I covered the document with a letter of my own, which detailed how my conditions impacted my daily life - and it was immediately accepted. When I first went for rehab, I could only walk the treadmill for 3 min at the slowest speed and it was still 3 minutes at the time of discharge, but my FM had gotten worse. Also included was a rhuematologist's report and one from my attending physician, which were both powerful statements, not lukewarm messages listing health problems. Good luck and be strong.-- posted by Angie_L » leas - CPP Stupidity Maybe someone out there has info that will help me in dealing with the pure stupidity one comes across while dealing with our powers that be. I quit my job in July of 1999 on the advice of my family doctor. I already had cut back my work load to part time and even with working two days a week, I would spend 2 to 3 days in bed trying to recover. I had to drive an hour to reach my job site and found my concentration wavering while on the highway. After hitting the ditch once and missing a semi the second time, I was worried not only for myself but putting others on the highway at risk. Now I have just received my second rejection. According to CPP I quit a job to apply and am therefore capable of light duties. In their twisted kindness they send a pamphlet along regarding UI and retraining programs. Now the nearest UI center is at least an hours drive away, and what are light duties?Who is going to employ a woman who will in all probability be absent most of the time and not much use when she is there? How can we make them understand the seriousness of FMS and how it in stages slowly robs us of our quality of life. Sorry to go on so long, at first I had to laugh when I saw why they turned me down. I mean you can't apply while you are holding down a job, their rules by the way, and when you quit to apply because you can no longer work, they tell you to go back to work. Makes no sense to me. But if anyone out there has any suggestions at all, please I would be grateful. I live in a small town of 1800 souls and don't have access to any programs available in larger centers. -- posted by leas » JRandyV - CPP and second rejection I am an advocate for people with FM/CFS/MPS. My best advice. Do not fight this alone. If you do you will lose because they feel if you can fight it alone then you can work. I have a medical questionaire that I have used successfully in obtaining benefits.Get hold of me and I will send you a copy. Do you have a member of parliament office nearby. They are supposed to help you.-- posted by JRandyV » JRandyV - Cherrie NO rehab will not help but if you are forced to go there do it. When you fail it will help your CPP. Contact me about a questionaire I have used successfully in helping others with FM/CFS/MPS get CPP disability. Is there a member of parliament office close to you? They are obliged to help.-- posted by JRandyV » leas - Member of Parliament Randy,I contacted my local MP office for help. I was told by the secretary to the MP that they could not interfere with CPP. She send me information on the appeals process and told me they could phone regarding my status and that was it. Was she completely wrong, and if so what else can I get them to do? -- posted by leas Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
