Excellent article! You have covered so many angles that people so often inquire about when it comes to managing aspects of depression that can accompany fibromyalgia. Congratulations a very moving and informative article.

WOW - Another Great Article Jausten - I mean Cynthia! LOL!!! You sure have said it all. I truly enjoy your articles each week. I always feel so much better when I come here to your place and read what you have to say, for you seem to touch on exactly what is going on with me each time you write. Do we have some kind of ESP going on between us or something?

Recently, I found myself overwhelmed with depression and sent out messages to all my CyberSpace friends for their assistance. About a month ago I had stopped taking a natural product I use which has helped me greatly with depression. It worked so well that I thought everything was fine "now!" That feeling of having "healed" my depression lasted about a month, but the "circumstances" in my life continued. Feeling so much better, I had isolated myself without realizing it, attempting to "make up the lost time" by diving into the many projects I had begun. Big Mistake! I learned a valuable lesson and I plan not to make that mistake again.

My CyberSpace Friends - My extended FMily, came through with their support and words of comfort and encouragement. I was so glad that I found the courage to reach out and ask for help -- something I have always found so difficult to do because my life experiences of asking for help had always been met with rejection. I will always remember this week as a valuable lesson - to never give up or ask for help if needed -- no matter what I find myself up against.

And if I ever do need a reminder -- I will always be able to refer to this article, which I plan to print out and put on my refrigerator! ;-)

Thank You Ever So Much! ;-)

I just finished reading your article, and felt like I wanted to respond. However, I couldn't find anything to say, other than you covered all bases in one article. Well said, and oh so true.

I have sad days, but fortunately I don't get depressed too often. When I feel the depression pulling me down, I will refer to this article.

Thank you.

ginny Beauregard

This well written article was very well timed-In Sept. I spent 6 days in the hospital being monitored for a Heart Condition-They could not find anything wrong-(although I would like a second opinion)-they concluded it was probably stress, nerves, anxiety, etc.

Whether I'm depressed is probably up to someone to determine although I don't feel that way-just get down sometimes, but doesn't everyone.

A year ago, I decided I needed to do something to help myself-I took up painting. I was sure shocked some of the works are actually pretty good. I never thought I had creative talents. I guess if you reach far enough inside, you'll find something to help. It sure takes up time and helps your self esteem.

I enjoy these great articles.

Thanks

Cynthia, loved this week's article. It hit depression right on the nose. I think it is very easy for someone with a chronic illness to become depressed on numerous occasions. We all have so much to deal with. Life is hard enough without the constant pain of FMS. Depression is one of the main complaints I think we all experience and you have given us all some food for thought. When everything is negative in your life it's hard to find a positive but if you keep searching, the positive is always there , just sometimes hidden. Take care and am waiting for next week.

Cynthia,

What a wonderful article on depression and how to deal with it and your fibro. I really enjoyed every word of it.

I often times find myself feeling sad or blue. But as you said clinical depression is much different than that. You need to have an evaluation to find out if you are or aren't clinically depressed. Just as you said.

Having FMS/CFIDS and MPS, I often find that I don't want to do anything but sit. But I force myself to do something that I like. Even if it is just to walk around in our yard. Just getting outside is good for me. I sometimes also play music that I like and that is upbeat to make me feel better.

I have just recently signed up for a water aerobics low impact class. I am looking forward to that because it is in a heated pool and I know it helps me. I didn't get to take advantage of our pool this summer because of the cast I had on my foot for most of it.

Also, you mentioned gardening and having to give it up. I also had to give up my gardening on the ground. So I took it to a new level and had hubby built up a couple of my beds for me so I could sit on the edge and garden. I do a lot of gardening in containers also. This lets me feel like I have a mini-garden on my deck.

Looking forward to your next article.

I just sent the URL for this topic to my sister and my previous boss - excellent people who should not be left alone with fibromyalgia. Let's see what happens.

» Angie_L - Echoes from the past

I believe this article is worth raising into the present to examine again because it is timely. Those of us who have kept journals can go back into the past and read what we wrote before. Coming from another discussion board, I was reminded that although depression can be treated with meds & therapy, once that has been taken care of, the fibromyalgia still remains. We find ourselves conquering the same stumbling blocks, time and again. Still have trouble to sleep, still have the pain, but we find a new attitude. If, we're lucky. Sometimes we need a little help, getting there. Then we may find an inner peace.
