» Jausten - Meds and Weight Gain

Since many of the medications that we need to take for proper sleep and also for pain control can cause weight gain, it is important to discuss the issue of weight gain with your doctor before taking any medication. A weight gain of 10 pounds isn't much, but over time it can increase and actually make our mobility worse. Since not all of us can tolerate the same medications, it is a very individual choice as to what works and what doesn't and whether we gain weight or not.

I take Zoloft 100 mg each morning, and was on 200 mg. I've had no weight gain with the Zoloft but not everyone can take antidepressants or tolerate Zoloft. I did gain 10 pounds over the past year, but I've lost 4 of them from walking and watching what I've been eating. I also agree that drinking as much water as possible is helpful in reducing hunger and flushing out toxins from our bodies. I'm sure that everyone will debate the best type of water to drink, but whether it is purified or not doesn't really matter in the long run because it is better than drinking other things which dehydrate us.

Elavil is famous for weight gain, and I couldn't tolerate even a very small dose of it. I was a walking zombie and couldn't wake up. Some people can tolerate large doses of certain medications but others of us can't. If weight gain is a major concern, then it is best to find something that doesn't increase the problem.

Imovane is helpful for most people for sleep and benadryl is also recommended. I use Soma some nights when I can't get to sleep, but not on a regular basis. The best thing to do is try something to see if it helps and we usually have to give it a month or so to see if it will help. I'm just coming out of a major flare, and I've come to the conclusion that there is no magic medication or magic cure that stays working forever. My good days last longer now, but the weather does havoc with my body.
