Don't even mention claustrophobia to me as it makes me claustrophobic. LOL I got locked in a small bathroom with no windows once, and nearly broke my leg trying to kick the door down. I totally lost it. :O

Loni, here's a few stress links for you. smile

American Institute of Stress
mindtools
immunesupport article
holistic remedies
stress links.
stress chart

One other thing I wanted to mention was that illness itself stresses and taxes the bodies' resources. I know I've mentioned my dog's illness before, but the similarities sometimes amaze me. He constantly blows fur as his body is stressed by his condition. Much the same way that our body responds to this kind of stress. There is internal and external stress.

Steve, your article sure has generated a lot of discussion, which is a very good thing. smile

Hope this helps.

» Debbie8758 - Thank you Steve!

I've been seeking the alternative assistance myself lately. I have felt more relief, even though I still don't expect to be pain free. There are those moments though when the focus is so intense on something else like breathing that you forget you hurt. I would love to receive the information on relaxation and the exercise planning charts. My email is deb8758@swbell.net. I don't mind anyone sending me email at anytime, sometimes I'm a little slow in responding or miss them though.

I recently started on a study of the psychological effects of movement. The first lesson was great, but I need more cushioning between me and the floor. I am signing on for more courses. Nothing strenuous, just simple moves, stances, and breathing lessons. I'm looking forward to learning more!

Thanks for sharing your experience, Steve! Great article.

In response to request for e-mail address.

Sorry, Steve. I guess I just assumed that you could get it from my profile.

Owlma30263@charter.net

I'm glad you answered the question I've been wanting to ask you = "how did you get the name?"

My grandchildren gave me mine.

Now if you would just translate the Latin???

You know, I was thinking that this all can be summed up by the expression - "Move it or lose it". I have always felt that as long as I just kept moving I would be okay. This seems to apply to so many areas of our lives doesn't it? Whatever we let go, by not working on it in some way, whether it is our minds, bodies, relationships etc. eventually atrophies without nourishment. Just a few rambling thoughts. LOL

Deb, I'll be interested in how you make out with those classes. I think anything we can do to improve our situations is bound to have positive psychological effects don't you?

Hi Jan, good to see you. smile

If anyone would like Steve to expand on any part of his program just speak up as we can add it to the article on a separate page.

I do have to say that I have seen a huge difference in Steve's attitude since filling out my questionnaire for men with fibro and doing this program. I think that is a testament for how well it worked for him. As we all know, not every treatment works for everyone, but the more we learn, the more tools we have, the better we are able to cope with fibro.

Good luck, Jean - I hope you get as much success as I did with my recent programme. All I can say is - only one person can make the difference - you. The therapists are only there to help youto help yourself. I'm sure you can do it!!

» energynow - Fibromyalgia Protocol Therapy

In response to message posted by TheWiseOwl:

HI, Steve. Thanks for good wishes.Learned some special stretching exercises. Because of osteoporosis in back, she told me not to do rotation exercises and the one where a person is on all fours and hunching mid-back up and down--could cause fracture.

Hooked me up to a computerized machine and could see muscle activity including what she called "guarding" (tensing) of muscles. Taught me about good posture and how to get up from a chair instead of using hands to help me rise.

Will learn exercises in heated therapeutic pool
next 2 visits. Then I can go to local fitness center pool and do same exercises.

Also taught me about diaphragmatic breathing and gave me relaxation tape.

I'm becoming more aware each day of what you mean-
i.e, I'm only one who can make a difference. You're right!

"If it is to be, it's up to me!"

» Skull13 - Don't know how I missed this!

Steve...Great piece! I have tried stretching but always get away from it because it is so boring by yourself. I do relaxation and meditation along with walking as much as possible. A new medication called Xyrem (GHB) is helping me to get some more restful sleep and I am feeling better than I have in a long time. I know I have to suck it up and do more.
