Peter: Don't beat yourself up having those thoughts; it's a form of stress over which you have no control, and it's normal to think/feel that way.

Been there, done that. My m-i-l did that sort of stuff when she lived with us for one winter. It was a way of getting attention, but at the same time it was head-banging frustration. Her own b-i-l used to do that to her also before she ever pulled those stunts on us. Now, my sister does it, but not as often...........yet. She lives by herself, but I do worry a bit at times; never, in a million years will I ever have the patience to have her live with us. That would drive me to distraction.

Tamara: My computer is sending out signals too that it needs attention, and my computer guy is working 7 days a week, with lots of overtime. So, right now, he's too busy to come and straighten things out.

Cat & I share the same day, Nov. 12th.

Don: Right there with you on the thoughts on the ( ugh! ) greens. You named them right too.

I'm sure that Jeanne is very relieved that she made it there in time to say her goodbyes. Nothing is worse than not being able to do that, or missing the funeral altogether.

I'm finally able to come to terms with missing my b-i-l's funeral, but it still leaves me saddened.

Flu has hit other members of the family hard. My younger brother did get the shot, but apparently it already was in his system, or it's another form of it that wasn't in the vaccine. He isn't the only one to get it. My husbands side of the family also has it.

Husband left today for his annual trip to the woods for deer hunting. Sent him along with 4 loaves of quick bread and other vittles for the rest of the guys, and to help out his sister, who is chief cook and bottle washer for this event.

Will bake another batch of those breads today and share with all. Making cranberry and apple bread, without the nuts; too many problems for most people, and if there's leftovers, hubby can finish them off.

Did anyone know: You can use bran buds in place of nuts in your baked goods? Not quite as expensive, and the taste is remarkably similar.

Well, off to the store now to take a sneak peek at the sale they are having tomorrow, starting at 6 a.m. in the morning. Ugh, hate the thought of getting up before that hour. Did it for over 40 years and then some. Waay too spoiled now.

The kids moved into their own place recently and need some tableware. It's on sale for a reasonable price, but I want to see the 2 patterns that will be offered. It's awfully damp & cold out, so you know this has to be a real bargain to get me to go out and look, lol.

Hey, I just noticed that they must be working on Suite as I wrote this. The mustard color on the tabs are dark red now.

HEY SUITE!! : How about changing the sick green to a nice cream and beige? Goes well with the dark red too.

May your tomorrows be better than your todays.

Hi all, thought I had posted earlier but apparently didn't press something. Peter, it is so hard to take care of people. I can't remember what I read earlier, but my screen shows a beige green with a darker sage green and brick red printing-better than that yellow gold stuff. Easier to read anyway.

Just a long hard day and I have done nothing but try to get computer fixed.

Snow predicted this week.

Talk to you later when things are a little clearer in my head. Joyce

» tamara_peters - Good Morning!

In response to Re: Re: Update ... sort of .... posted by zhann:

Joyce, sounds like you're having lots of 'puter problems too. It sure is never ending isn't it?

It's possible Suite doesn't have all the glitches worked out yet, and your post ended up in cyber-space somewhere.

Loni, what I did was leave my computer guy a message. He hasn't actually called me back yet. LOL

Sometimes, I end up having to leave several messages before I get called back.

Sorry I missed you're birthday.. Hope it was a good one. smile

I'm not sure if it's the flu that's been going around here or not. I've had whatever this is for almost a week now.

They tried to give me a flu shot at the hospital, but I refused it. I'm just not convinced about having them.

Richard hasn't hunted in years so I sure do miss that deer meat. Hope yours has good luck.

Mmmmm, the breads sound yummy. I'm making a couple of banana breads today so I don't have to throw those pesky bananas away.

Thanks for the bran bud tip. I didn't know that.

Our town's annual Early Bird Sale is this morning as well. If you wear jammies you get an even better deal. LOL

No way I'm going to try to fight that crowd, though, OR wear jammies in public. :O

A shop next door to us always brings us coupons to use for Fri., Sat., and Sun., at 40% off. I found my sil a beautiful Fenton Art Glass vase there for Christmas. It was a great deal. smile

Did I tell you all that no one's left at Suite's HO except Barrie's son Bryan? It's a whole new team now. sad

I'm trying to put the whole thing behind me, but I have to tell you it still makes me angry and sad.

Thanks, Peter. It's still ongoing, I guess.

Wow! Sounds like you're having a time of it with auntie.

I agree that kind of situation would try the patience of anyone.

Please don't beat yourself up over having those feelings, though. I think anyone would be hard pressed not to have them in a case like that.

Um, but no bouncing pillows off auntie's head, okay? ;-)

Don, thanks for letting me know about that bounce-back. I'll have to let my computer guy know if he ever does show up.

What is your mother taking lisinopril for? That's what I'm taking for high blood pressure.

He just upped the does 'cause the bottom number's still too high, though.

I picked up a small turkey yesterday and it was only 49 cents a pound. It's still probably too big for two people, 10 pounds, but we'll have lots of leftovers.

Hmmm, scorpions may be one of the fastest growing non-mammal pets, but you'll never catch me having one in this house. Arrghh! Yuck!

Nope, lol, now that thought never entered my head. He's a young fella with a wife and kids; probably young enough to be my son. LOL

Actually, we're both surprised this old computer is still hanging on.

Peter...Nobody knows what to say when someone dies. It is enough to express that you care...thank you.

All I can say about Auntie is three little words...Prince Edward Island! Wink!

Loni...It is very important to feel closure when you lose someone close to you. Getting to see her father one last time allowed Jeanne to have that essential part of the grieving process.

I think Suite needs your fashion sense!!!

Joyce...Your color descriptions sound so much nicer than what I'm seeing! Wink!

Diva...Mother has congestive heart failure (CHF) and Lisinopril is popular for that. The fact that it works better on urinary frequency than any drug made for that is just an added bonus.

Saw a piece on the local news about buying turkeys...already knew this stuff but it is good to know. Other than Butterball, all other frozen turkeys have a liquid (98% water) preservative added to help plump them up. Still a round 12 pound turkey will have as much as 20% more meat on it than a thin one...so plump is always the way to go!

I like my turkeys and my woman both on the plump side! Wink!

"Nope, lol, now that thought never entered my head. He's a young fella with a wife and kids; probably young enough to be my son. LOL"

Well, if it's good enough for Demi...

FYI...Don't know how many of you have Drake's Cake products in your area but we don't here in SC. I grew up on Ring Dings, Yodels, Funny Bones, Yankee Doodles, Sunny Doodles and Devil Dogs. Jeanne is bringing me down some from New York!!!

Funny Bones!! OMG! I love them and they don't have them here on the beach either. Yankee Doodles...LOL Now why would they have those here? Ha ha..

What about Suzi Q's?

Turkey...I finally bought my stuff today...still a little stressed though...I have a lot to do before Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping...Forget it! I haven't even started yet.

I am going to Florida for Christmas and OMG! Packing clothes is not the only thing I have to think about.

Peter - sorry about the flu. I hope that you are feeling better. Chili..Yummy! I am making that this week. Lots of Cheese on top and some Sour Cream...when I am in a real eating mood, I have chili with Fritos!

I always have to dip. LOL

Love stew, too!

Hope everyone is well. It is quiet in here today.smile

» Rosee - Afternoon everyone..

I remember when they changed the color the last time and we all were thinking it was so horrible...LOL! I really don't mind the new color scheme myself. smile

If our Fibro Friends come under fire and they decide to delete us I have a new home for you all if you want. Deb and I have a site over at Ezboard that we rattle around in all by ourselves at the moment. Deb started it a few years ago and we actually had Darlene and Marian (rocksy) from suite in there too. We would love it if you all wanted to start this thread up in our site. You could decorate F/F in what ever colors you decided on too....LOL! Anyways it it just a thought if things go bad here as I know everyone is quite happy here.

Been MIA lately too because my little Lucy had to be spayed so I have been running back and forth to the vet. She is home now and a little under the weather so needs extra cuddly which is a good excuse for me to lay down and catch a nap...LOL!

Hugs, M smile

Tery...I know "Yankees" aren't especially made to feel welcome here in South Carolina (entry for understatement of the year!), but it is an odd fact that the first place that "American" troops had to endure the British taunts via the song "Yankee Doodle" was right here in Charleston.

Suzi Q's...forgot about them!

Divine Miss M...Nice of you to offer space but it does look like we are staying put.

FYI...My dear cyberfriend Sue (Lupus/Fibromyalgia) just lost a close friend of hers to a long battle with breast cancer. Please check yourself the first of ever month and get screened (mammogram, ultra sound) as reccommended by your doctors.

In response to Good Morning! posted by tamara_peters:

Tamara: As of last night, no venison for us yet. Some of the guys in the party have their quotas filled. Will find out today when he plans on coming home.

On turkeys: try to get one at least 12 pounds in weight, or you will have more bones than meat. Leftover cooked turkey freezes well.

Don: Good info on the turkey! Didn't know that.

Some people opt. for fresh turkeys too. Have done that, and it turned out very good.

Some cooks on the food channel advise cooking them breast side down first to keep the meat moist, then turning them over during the later stages of cooking. For most of us, that would require a block and tackle!! What are they thinking??

For those of you that are doing the dinner, try to do as much ahead of time as you can. Many side dishes and desserts can be made ahead of time. This will enable you to P-A-C-E and have more time with your guests.

Marilyn: That extra cuddling with Lucy will give you a bit more bonding time together. She will recover a bit faster too.

Made out like a bandit at the early bird sale, the first that I've ever gone to in my life. Was very surprised that the store was even offering coffee and doughnuts to those coming in. Declined the doughnut, but did take the coffee as that was my kick start for the day.

Found a beautiful knife set & block for both us and the kids. That will be their Christmas gift. Also found those Sankotou knives for 50% off. The kids asked me the other day, "Mom, how do you make a turkey?", so when I spotted the roasting pan with heavy handles and a heavy duty rack, AND a bonus serving platter to go with, I bought that too. There was a $10.00 rebate on top of the sale price to boot. Couldn't pass that up! Then, I found out that the store takes all the heavy things to a customer service area and you can pick it up there. They even load it in the car for you. Nice!!

BTW: Come on over for some apple bread and cranberry bread, plus coffee or hot apple cider. Neither of the breads have nuts baked into them.

Can tell that there is a cold in my system ready to come out. Symptoms are starting to show. sad

Feeling achy all over; could be the fibro, weather changes, or a combination of both. The cold weather sure has been a shock for the system. Having difficulty getting used to the dampness and the winds.

Time for me to be taking off.

Loni...I don't think you could find a plump ten pound turkey! May as well go with a goose!

When I was a teen and dragged out of the house kicking and screaming (or was that being kicked and screamed at) to relatives for Thanksgiving, the variety of food usually wasn't the problem. The problem (aside from all the relatives) was that rarely was anything made the way I was used to or liked. One memorable year, my cousin made a 52 lb. turkey that she and her husband raised themselves. Then she proceeded to stuff it with an artichoke based stuffing that gave the bird wierd smell as it cooked. The turkey was okay but I skipped the stuffing.

Hmmm apple bread and hot apple cider...sounds all warm and huggy!!!

Brain still not working so good ... so I forget who said what. I just know I got real hungry reading all the threads this morning.

Turkey ... apple bread & cranberry bread ... apple cider ... feel like crossing the border for a visit hahahahaha

Mind you ... that artichoke stuffing in the turkey didn't do much for me ;-)

Update on auntie ... the old girl has sort of settled down a bit. Funny how ... like on the Golden Girls ... I just have to mention Shady Pines and she snaps right out of whatever she is currently playing at ;-) But ... ya gotta love her ;-)

Its lucky the Canadian Thanksgiving is the second week in August. There have been 2 pairs of wild turkeys turning up daily in my yard and one neighbours yard. Have a feeling at least one of them would be plucked & hanging by now if Christmas wasn't so far away hahahaha. Even so ... can't help thinking I am going to hear a gun shot echoing through the ravine at any time. Instead of staying in the parts of the yard that are hidden from the road ... they move right on up where they are on public display. And we get a good amount of traffic past the house these days.

Am feeling quite a bit better the past couple days. So good in fact that I think I will make my Christmas Cake this year. Its a family recipe. My mother makes a white fruit cake ... my aunt (now me) makes a pretty dark one. But the cake I make ... it has 3 layers ... but only 1 cup of flour. I find it totally amazing ;-) Since I wouldn't use any of the ingredients (except the flour) for anything other than making my Christmas Cake ... I always take the recipe with me to the bulk food store and buy only what I need to make the cake. The bonus is ... when I make it ... I just open the bags and dump ;-) hahahaha

Will let you know if I succeed. The HUGE bonus of my cake is ... the longer it sits the moister it gets. And it will freeze and still taste great for years. My mothers cake ... it gets dry fairly quick and doesn't freeze worth a damn. So ... might end up making two batches of it. Just so I won't have to make it again for a few years hahahaha ;-)

I should post the recipe & shopping list for it on my website. Just in case anyone thinks they might like to try it ;-) Will have to think on that one.

Anyway ... y'all take care. Feel as well as possible.

Peter
